I was just over at eBay to see if there were any listings for the Sam's Club Popeye collector's tin, and out of curiosity, I checked the listings for actual film prints.

Well, under the listings, there is a 35mm print of "Riot in Rhythm" with its original Paramount titles. One of the screen caps provided shows that the cartoon does indeed end with the Paramount logo on theater screen, and Popeye's four nephews playing their instruments as the theater audience watches, much like the ending to "The Hungry Goat". It is very likely that "Me Musical Nephews" also had this ending.

Here is a link to the listing:

Not only that, but their trumpets fill the entire screen in that one shot. I wonder if Warner's print of this short has that ending.

I'm about 99% sure that it does not. The print Warner has is most likely the a.a.p. print. The version I recently saw on Boomerang had its Paramount logos sourced from a 1956-1957 Popeye short, just like what has been done to most of the Popeye shorts that Turner only has a.a.p. versions of.

Now this is what needs to be done. We need some loyal people to pitch in and buy this print. It's the only way these things can get done in a timely fashion in case it is salvageable. I wouldn't mind getting it myself just for the sake of it.

It does make me wonder if Me Musical Nephews did the same too. It could've. Somewhat of a nifty way to end a cartoon that has since been ruined thanks to TV distribution.

So I now wonder if such an ending was in the original "Me Musical Nephews" too.

Given the really loud ending with the trumpets that you can still hear on that cartoon, since the audio soundtracks of the endings survived on the B&W AAP prints, it's pretty much a guarantee that the color ending was lifted from the one in the original.

Thanks Jon... I knew about this, and had added the framegrab to my PARAMOUNT ORIGINAL TITLES (http://www.cartoonresearch.com/paramount.html) page several days ago. The original titles for the Paramount color Popeyes exist. Unlike the black and white cartoons where AAP cut the negative to replace the Paramount logos, they did not touch the 3-strip Technicolor/Cinecolor/Polacolor negs.
