View Full Version : OT: Best post-"Golden Age" Simpsons episodes?
The "Chase"

Well, to get the bad taste of the modern day Simpsons out somewhat, let's do something positive. To most people, when season 9 really started (Mike Scully took over), people said the Simpsons were in a decline. When Al came back, many people think the show REALLY went into a decline. But, seeing some of the episodes they run, not ALL of them were bad. Sure, every black moon, there's a "KTAAR" "That 90's Show" "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Marge" and so on, but on every blue moon, there's a "HOMR," "Trilogy of Error" "Eeny Teeny Maya Moe" and so on.
So, seeing as many people here hate the Simpsons nowadays, tell me, is there ANY good/your favorite post-golden age Simpsons episodes you like to share?
For me, I say these are worthy of a watch (I'm going on what I have seen)...
Any non-Scully season 9 episodes
Natural Born Kissers
Marge Simpson in: "Screaming Yellow Honkers"
Skinner's Sense of Snow
HOMR
Day of the Jackanapes
Trilogy of Error
Moe Baby Blues (Just for the direction)
Springfield Up
Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind
Dial 'N' for Nerder
No Loan Again, Naturally (yeah, the plot sucks, but at least they tired)
Eeny Teeny Maya Moe
There's more if I can watch them. So, care to share something GOOD with modern day Simpsons?

"Hello Gutter, Hello Fadder"
"Skinner's Sense of Snow"
"The Blunder Years"
"Brawl in the Family"
"Co-Dependant's Day" (mostly for the Star Wars/George Lucas satire)

"See Homer Run"
"We're on the Road to D'oh-where"
"24 Minutes"

To me, the Golden Age ended after Season 5, but still stayed strong until Season 9. Here are my post-1997 favorites. Some of them I often refer to by my own alternate titles instead, which will be next to the original...
SEASON 9
"The Cartridge Family" (a.k.a. "Homer Gets a Gun")
"Miracle on Evergreen Terrace"
"Dumbbell Indemnity"
SEASON 10
"The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace"
"Mayored to the Mob"
"Maximum Homerdrive"
"Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo"
SEASON 11
"Beyond Blunderdome" (a.k.a. "The Mel Gibson Episode")
"Grift of the Magi"
"Behind the Laughter"
SEASON 12
"Lisa the Tree Hugger"
"Skinner's Sense of Snow"
"I'm Goin' to Praiseland"
"Simpsons Tall Tales"
SEASON 13
"The Blunder Years"
"Weekend at Burnsie's"
"I Am Furious Yellow"
SEASON 14
"Bart Vs. Lisa Vs. Third Grade"
"Special Edna"
"The Dad Who Knew Too Little" (a.k.a. "The Private Detective Episode")
SEASON 15
"The Fat and the Furriest"
"Tis the Fifteenth Season"
"I, D'oh-Bot"
"The Wandering Juvie"
"Co-Dependant's Day" (Cosmic Wars scenes)
SEASON 16
"Treehouse of Horror XV" (the Sherlock Holmes story)
"There's Something About Marrying"
"Future Drama"
SEASON 17
"The Girl Who Slept Too Little"
"See Homer Run" (a rare instance in which a first-time writer can write a good episode)
SEASON 18
"Treehouse of Horror XVII" (first Treehouse of Horror in years to have a non-Kang and Kodos intro, among other hilarious scenes and references including Maurice LaMarche's Annie Award-winning Orson Welles impression. I hope Peter Gaffney writes more episodes soon!)
"The Wife Aquatic"
"Springfield Up"
"Marge Gamer"
"24 Minutes"
SEASON 19
"Funeral for a Fiend"
"Dial N for Nerder"
"Papa Don't Leech"
SEASON 20
"Treehouse of Horror XIX"
"Mypods and Boomsticks"

I didn't really watch anything past season 10, but I like "Lisa's Sax" (season 9, isn't it?) and "Joy of Sect" a lot.
I also enjoy the one clip show David Mirkin did, just for the silly send-up of "Paint Your Wagon."
And "Mayored To The Mob," for Mark Hamill's guest spot (he was hilarious).

I think "The City Of New York Vs Homer Simpson" should be mentioned, because of the amazing detail in the drawings for the twin towers or New York in general. The shot of Homer first arriving at the towers and looking up at them is very reminiscent of "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York", where Kevin first arrives at the towers and does the same thing Homer does.

Ah, shoot I forgot to ask this question in my last post. Ah well, here it goes.
Our Fox affiliate for the Boise area is KTRV Fox 12. Every Monday through Friday at 5pm channel 12 shows reruns of The Simpsons, however they only show episodes from the last couple of seasons. For example episodes like "Kill Gil Pt.s 1 and 2" or "Funeral For a Fiend" have probably been shown 5-6 times this year alone, whereas episodes like "Krusty Gets Cancelled" or "Lisa the Greek" haven't been seen on the channel in probably years. Does any body else have this problem with their local Fox or CW affiliate?

It used to be like that here on FOX 28 back in 2002-2003 when I first started watching it. Then in July 2003 it seems like they went down to their old video tapes and showed the episodes from Season One in order! I was very excited being a young avid simpsons fan to see these archaic gems. They even showed them in the correct production order, showing Some Enchanted Evening first THEN Bart The Genius. Now they show random episodes from various seasons. Sometimes they even have a theme on certain weeks, like best episodes with Krusty, The Simpsons On Vacation, etc.
