[APRIL FOOLS] Oh, me, oh, my! Disney buys Daffy and Speedy

It's been announced that Disney has just bought the rights to Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales, as well as all the Daffy and Speedy shorts. All cartoons still owned by WB that features either will be permaneantly put into a vault (so I guess this means no more Space Jam or Back in Action). Warner will still own any cartoon where either character co-stars with a Warner-owned character, like Bugs, Sylvester, or Wile E. Coyote.

Disney will release a Daffy and Speedy collection in the treasures series, including the opening from The Sylvester and Tweety/ Daffy and Speedy Show (only with half the opening).

I really hope that this means that Daffy and Speedy will get to appear in the upcoming Muppet movie planned.

Here is a news update:

Disney has immediately planned out merchandise and material for the characters. In addition to a chronological Daffy and Speedy set, there will be up to five 10-ccartoon family market DVDs with the characters per year, and Disney plans on making three Daffy and Speedy movies every year for the next 27 years. One will always be made for the theaters, one made for DVD, and one made for television. The first theatrical feature wil be a remake of Fantastic Island, now titled "Daffy and Speedy's Fantastic Island". Some of the original animation will be included, but Pirate Sam will be replaced with Pete, and many Disney characters will make wishes, among them Mickey Mouse, Huey, Dewy, and Louie, Megavolt, Kit Cloudkicker, King Louie (in Jungle Book form, with special permisison from the Louie Prima estate), Gusto Gummi, Roger Rabbit, and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

These movies will be written by Seth MacFarlane and John K. They will also voice the pair, respectivley, and John K. will do all of the animation himself.

Daffy and Speedy will also host a new prime time series called Daffy and Speedy's House of Duck and Mouse, and will be a remake of House of Mouse. Vault Disney will return to The Disney Channel, with an hour-long Daffy and Speedy show with all the classics included.

And although the classic shorts will be widely available, Daffy and Speedy will have brand new personalities. The two will now be the best of buddies (which means at least three broadcasts of Skyscraper Caper a week, and at least five DVD releases), and they will have new character traits: Daffy will be addicted to crack, while Speedy will be obssessed with murdering humans with his solid gold ax.

Disney has demanded that the Disney Stores and theme park gift shops be overfilled with Daffy and Speedy, promoting their new, better mouse-and-duck team. And Boom! Studios will publish a four-part Speedy and Daffy comic book, based on Robin Hood.

I hope they get Dave Alvarez to draw them again since he's already doing some projects with Sam and Friends, I mean Kermit and friends.
