Happy birthday to Sylvester the Cat, who 64 years ago today, made his first appearance in "Life With Feathers"

In human years, he's actually like 325 years old.

We need a recording of Tweety singing The Beatles' "When I'm 64" for this very special occassion.

So? That's about four average lifespans. And as everyone knows, cats have nine lives. So he isn't even halfway there:sylvester

If I'm correct, Sylvester has more Academy Awards nominations than any other LT character. He has seven total, with three being wins!

Life with Feathers (nominated)
Tweety Pie (won)
Sandy Claws (nominated)
Speedy Gonzales (won)
Birds Anonymous (won)
Mouse and Garden (nominated)
The Pied Piper of Guadalupe (nominated)

Sylvester is Warner Bros.' most tragically underrated actor. He's in my Top 4 Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies Characters. (The Others are Daffy, Foghorn Leghorn, and Bugs Bunny)

And next year, Sylvester is 65. In 2001, CN marked Porky's 65th with a marathon of Porky cartoons - this was delayed a year pending the expiration of other TV contracts to air the Looney Tunes, so that CN could air every cartoon.

For Sylvester's own 65th, the occasion should be marked with 2 DVD sets featuring all of his cartoons yet to be restored: one would feature the 33 remaining cartons without Tweety, and the other collects the rest of his cartoons with Tweety. The non-Tweety set would have, as a bonus feature, an all-new cartoon where the LT gang celebrates Sylvester's birthday (of course, the animators would not be allowed to mention any specific ages).

(below provided that LT permanently returns to CN's schedule)
On the weekend before 3-24-10, CN would air a marathon of Sylvester toons, then on a 3-24 installment of The Looney Tunes Show, there would be 3 TV premieres:
*The aforementioned Sylvester birthday cartoon
*The restored version of "Life with Feathers"
*The restored version of "Tweetie Pie"

The non-Tweety set would also be released on 3-23-10, a day before Sylvester's birthday.

Im really enjoying this thread!!
Sylvester has a two way tie with Bugs for being my favorite cartoon character ever.
I especially enjoy this idea PF9 is giving to us about a Birthday celebration for Sylvester. :D

Happy Boithday Sylvester!! :) :sylvester

It's funny, I always rooted for Sylvester in the cartoons with Tweety. I always thought Tweety (except the Bob Clampet version) was too annoying.
Happy Birthday Sylvester!

Happy Birthday Sylvester!

I thought Tweety was at his most annoying in Bad Ole' Putty Tat. He was so ridiculously sadistic that I honestly couldn't see myself rooting for him anymore after seeing the Choo-Choo Train gag (which, fortunately, ended the cartoon). And apparently, Freleng realized this too. Which is why, after that cartoon, he gradually toned down Tweety's sadism.
