Wow, and I thought I was going to be buying this for just the 'racist' shorts alone, but... There's a mini-documentary on Floyd Gottfredson?! Now I have to have this DVD! :mickey:

I asked the reviewer about this and he said he couldn't find alternate versions of either "THE CASTAWAY" or "PIONEER DAYS" despite a thorough search for Easter Eggs. What a shame, I was looking forward to this rare material and I'll bet a few other people here were too. Still it's a wonderful set of cartoons - some of which I at one time thought would never get released again.

probably the reviewer simply did not find the easter eggs, which i highly presume must be in the set..i think we'll have to wait for the ultimate disney.com review, which usually devote two pages for the treasures and reveals every little detail...i'm also waiting for the ukltimate disney.com review of the pluto set to know if a feather in his collar,a special short starring pluto,is included or not as an easter egg.

considering one of te mickey sets got mickey's surprise party, another the standard parade and the donald one got the volunteer worker,i suppose this pluto special short will be in the set

Well, fingers crossed, but the eggs on the Treasures are usually pretty easy to find. The only one I thought was a little tricky finding was when one was hidden in the "captions" menu on Silly Symphonies because that isn't a menu I really use. I'm hoping for "A feather in his Collar" on the Pluto set too, but if it's not on there it'll probably wind up on volume two. As for the alternate versions of the shorts on MMinB&W2, the official page on the Disney site lists them as the special features so if they're not on there it must have been a last minute decision or over sight.

I was disappointed that WHEN THE CAT'S AWAY was not included in the first issue. But fortunately, it was included in this second edition. This is particularly interesting in that it is the only Mickey Mouse cartoon I can think of that portrayed Mickey and Minnie in realistic scale. According to legend, and documented by Leonard Maltin, this was primarily Ub Iwerks' concept, and was don while Walt was away, When he returned, he was not pleased, and reminded Ub and all concerned that Mickey was to be considered as a person. After that,
I don't believe that was ever attempted again. This gives a whole new spin of the title, "When the Cat's Away," doesn't it?
