For those who remember, I ran a matinee show at a theatre here today. My film show was a hit. Lots of kids and adults came, ate popcorn and had a ball. They laughed at everything - adults too! It was cool to sit in the projection booth and watch all of those people enjoy these cartoons. So now they want me to do a matinee every week!
Also - our own Larry T. came by as well! It was a pleasure to meet someone from the board in person. :)
Congrats, man! It's good to know that people are trying to keep the tradition and experience alive and flourishing.
Btw, you have to tell us a playlist of everything you showed :)
Regards,
Jeff

I probably shouldn't post the films I played - Big Brother may be watchiing somewhere. But what the heck:
Psychedelic Pink
Rabbit Seasoning
Twice Two (Laurel and Hardy)
Ready Set Zoom!
Bear Facts (Little Rascals)
The Talking Dog
Popeye's Pappy (I know, I know...but where else are they gonna see it?)
Dutiful but Dumb (Three Stooges)
Bird in a Bonnet
If it's a problem you can always just PM me next time...

Neat! It's good to see that theatrical cartoons are kept that way, theatrical.
Popeye's Pappy (I know, I know...but where else are they gonna see it?)How was the audience reaction on THAT one... ? :sailor:

The reaction was fine. I never heard a negative comment, and they laughed through it just like the others. I hesitated on running it, but I wanted to show them something they would probably never see again. There were programs given out, and under the title I made a mention about the cartoon containing "native" stereotypes, but nobody seemed to take notice. I would like to set up a camcorder and tape the audience reaction throughout the show. Then make copies of it and send them to all the Studio execs who own these pictures and say, "Don't tell me people still don't want to see these".

Thanks Paul, it was a great show (what I caught of it- I never knew it would take so bloody long to get to Wallaceburg from London. Next time won't be an issue, tho).
Paul's print of "Popeye's Pappy" was very nice, it had rich colour and very few splices. Believe it or not, I never noticed any adverse reaction to that cartoon at all, not from the kids nor the adults in the audience. As a matter of fact, my friend noticed the kids really laughed at many parts of the cartoons, even if he thought the jokes were a bit above them.
It was nice to see the outer edges of the films, a lot of times those fields are cut off on TV airings. Nothing beats seeing films direct from 16mm!
I'd also forgotten how funny uncut 3 Stooges' films were :D .

What a great show. More people need to be doing what you're doing. Let us know how additional weeks work out!

Glad to hear it was a great success. Unfortunately I have never had the privilege to view cartoons the way they were meant to be viewed. Wish something like this could be done around my town. :bosko:
I decided to try and do my own film collecting, not something I want to do full-time, but just as a hobby, so I managed to win this on eBay:

Not bad at all! I have some prints that have fading color and I'm always reluctant to run them, but then I notice that the audience doesn't really notice it. I keep my prints sealed and in a chest freezer, and prints I bought years ago that had fading color haven't faded any worse since then.
