2/03/09: Ferngully (with a special guest)
2/10/09: Kid in King Arthur's Court
2/17/09: The Adventures of Sonic
2/24/09: Top 11 Mind**** Moments
3/03/09: Twister
3/10/09: Garbage Pail Kids
3/17/09: Titanic Animated
3/24/09: Rock-A-Doodle

I'm looking forward to the FernGully and Rock-a-Doodle reviews, as I like both those movies. Although I have a gut feeling he won't be very kind to Rock-a-Doodle.

Fern Gully is going to be as funny as heck-I just know it. I want to see how he reacts to Tim Curry's Hexus-whose behavior contains tons of sexual innuendo.

Rock-A-Doodle I have not seen since I was very little so I have less memory of it.

I've seen that movie a couple times, and it's pretty much usual Bluth fare.

Wouldn't mind seeing him grill the animated Titanic video I saw years ago. That thing was terrible!

I have yet to meet anybody who was kind to Rock-a-Doodle. It's quite possibly Don Bluth's most aggressively bad film - I swear, it's like he was deliberately trying to have it make as little sense as possible. I can't wait to see what Doug does with it!

I saw both Ferngully and Rock-a-Doodle in the theater when I was a young'un...haven't seen either one since.
Frankly, if I can make an OT comment, I for one kinda decided to stop watching the Nostalgia Critic ever since he called "Good Burger" the worst thing Nickelodeon has ever done and implied that it is from the pits of Hell.
I have many fond memories of Kenan and Kel, and Good Burger in particular is a movie which made me, my then-50-year-old mother and my then-56-year-old father laugh out loud. I still think Kenan and Kel were genuinely funny, and I don't have the heart to see Doug rip them to shreds the way he usually does. I can understand his ripping on things like Power Rangers or Captain Planet, but Kenan and Kel? His screaming at the sight of the poster was enough to tick me off, let alone hearing what he'll actually say about it next week, funny though it may be.
For him to call Good Burger the worst thing Nickelodeon has ever done in an age of shows like iCarly and Naked Brothers Band is just plain misjudgement. I know all that is irrelevant, but I wanted to get it off my chest.

Well, bare in mind that you're probably in the minority, here. Most people, upon its release, considered Good Burger to be among the worst films of 1997. And many people stick by this view even today.

I wonder if he's going to rip on Harriet The Spy (Nickelodeon's first feature-length film) anytime soon.

I personally would LOVE to see him rip up the absolutely horrible animated version of "The King and I" :D (My mom took me to that one against my will-not her fault though-I wanted to see Baby Geniuses:p ) Honestly-when the villain's sidekick is a poor, goofy guy who keeps losing his teeth in the process-you feel really sorry for him.

BTW-I actually watched Good Burger with some friends last summer and it actually wasn't that bad-it definately made me laugh. Better than that King and I movie!

I actually liked The King and I when it first came out. Although admittedly, I have no desire to see it again.

And JB, I like Rock-a-Doodle quite a bit.

So, am I the first person you've seen to say anything good about the film? I like being the first person in something.... as long as it's not first to die... :shame:

Oh man, Titanic? With the rapping dog? And 1001 Ways To Plagiarize Disney? The Titanic promoted as 'everyone lives'? I am so there!

Having just seen FernGully a while ago (I missed out on it back in the day), he's going to have a lot to say about this one. :D

I've been waiting for the day when he finally decided to do "Rock-a-Doodle"! Especially since he declared "The Secret of NIMH" his top Underated Nostalgic movie.

I had only seen "Rock-a-Doodle" once when I was five or so, and it couldn't even hold my interest back then. I made a conscious effort to watch it as an adult, start-to-finish, and geez, it made "All Dogs Go to Heaven" look like a masterpiece (I wonder how long it will be before he does that one?).

I don't know how I'm going to wait two months!

Well, there was that one guy on DeviantArt, but I think he just had an anthro crush on Goldie Pheasant. You're the first one I've met to praise the film as a whole.

"Praise" may be too strong aword. I admit the move is stupid, but it's stupid in a "fun" way.

Penn Julliet once commented "Plan 9 From Outer Space may be the worst movie ever made, but at least it's not boring."

The same can be said about Rock-a-Doodle. It's enjoyable because it's cheesy.

A Troll in Central Park, Thumbelina, and Pebble and the Penguine are probably the only Bluth films that I really don't like.

Interestingly, Disney mulled around the idea of making a Chanticleer movie off and on throughout the 60's and 70's, and that was at least in part the origin of Rock-a-Doodle. Certainly the weak plot and the draping of Phil Harris' voice and Baloo's "laid-back" characterization over the dog scream Miller-era Disney.

I've read about that too, don't think the NC will mention that in his review, but it is interesting to see why this film got made at all given the hassle Disney had in wanting to adapt the story long before Bluth got his hands on it.

The closest that Disney got with Marc Davis' drawings was an elaborant Disneyland attraction called "America Sings".

"Mrs. Frisby and the Rats" was also a story that Disney tried to develope while Bluth was still employed there.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!

I saw the review last night; brilliant! What was up with the "bloopittybloopittybloopittybloopitty" scene in that movie with "Grapenose Man"? Did the guys who made that movie actually think that would be funny???!! Also, did the scene really go on that long in the movie itself or did the NC stretch it on a bit longer just to show how overbearingly obnoxious it could be?

"And, lo and behold, an obnoxious [language censored] with unconvincing dreds would put grapes in his nose and then constantly shout 'bloopittybloopittybloopittybloopitty' and it would be the Eleventh Level of Hell!!!!! ..... Dante then wet himself and cried in fear!" :D :D :D :D :D

Doug stretched it out a lot longer than it was in the movie. In a way, he kind of cheated by making that scene seem worse than it actually is, but it's still pretty bad either way.

Good Burger is wall-to-wall with stupid humor, the kind of thing that movie makers think they can get away with in a kids' film because they think kids will be entertained by anything as long as it's wacky, nutty, silly, goofy, and absolutely ridiculous. And looking at that from the standpoint of an adult, it's downright painful to sit through. Good review, though.

"Stupid humor" can be funny if done properly. Beavis And Butt-Head, Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, just about anything with Jim Carrey. All are loaded with "stupid humor" but still manage to be very funny because of how creative they can be with it.

Good Burger, to me, sounds like stupid humor done "wrong." Which equates to, well, just plain stupid.

Did he ever do a video about that "Agent Freddy 07" animated film? I only saw it once and I don't remember much about this unmemorable film. It didn't even make any sense! The frog was once a prince and became a secret agent? How and why?!!

Wait, you mean "Freddie The Frog"? Well, in that case, don't ask me. I own the film for years (my brother), but I never got it a chance. Only thing I know through the Internet is that James Earl Jones did the narration when it was released to America, and a sequel was planned, but never came.

But to answer your question, no, he didn't. I won't be surprised if he never heard of the film, either.

It was offically released on tape in the U.S. around 1994/95. I think there were even TV commercials for the video.

And the video was released by MCA Universal, or the studio that hold the rights to Land Before Time films?

If so, yeah, it's the same thing, and for some reason, you watched (or remembered) the orginal British version. Tell me Nick, did you remember James narrating some parts of the film, since you brought up the movie?

I remember "Freddie the Frog" as a kid, and kinda liked it.

Not only was James Earl Jones the naarator in the US version, but Ben Kingsley voiced the title character(!), and John Sessions voiced one of the supporting characters(!!!)

I've actually heard of Freddie the Frog (saw a commercial or two for it on video as a kid) the original version is up on youtube which may be actually be better as the American version was chopped up and edited for violence. I even had a weird dream as a kid that was somewhat Freddie centered-never got to the secret agent part.

There's one thing that bothered me though-why the heck didn't Freddie turn back into a prince? His wicked aunt had been defeated-hadn't she?

One of these days-if I'm brave enough I might watch it on youtube-after all I was actually looking for it-was curious to see how it actually was.
