View Full Version : Uncommon Famous Studio cartoons with original titles

This is a question I have been meaning to ask.

There are a couple of Noveltoons that show up on all of the $1 DVD's with the original titles intact (Stupiditious Cat, Naught But Mice, Quack a Doodle Doo, Hep Cap Symphony, and so on). But aside from that, have any prints of Famous cartoons with original titles entered the various trading circuits.

Apparently, several NTA-controlled Famous shorts have been circulating in timecoded copies, but with their original titles intact (or that's at least what I've heard up from the grapevine). Can this be verified? And have any Lulus with original titles been spotted by anyone?

I'm pretty sure Old MacDonald Had a Farm is out there with original titles. Not sure about Lulus.

I've seen one or two "Lulus" with original titles on either YouTube or DailyMotion; although I don't remember now which ones. I think one of them may have been "Snap Happy"...

I own all of the various VHS releases of Lulu cartoons that Republic came out with early in the home video era. IIRC, several of the cartoons on those tapes had the original titles.

If I can get to them this weekend, I will try and note which specific titles.

Here's the copy of "Snap Happy" (http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/Little%2BLulu/video/x4dja7_title02_fun) that Andrea uploaded about a year ago, with original titles.

I know about the VHS tapes (and have dubs of them) but has anyone else heard anything about the Famous cartoons with timecodes being in circulation.

A beautiful print of "I'm Just Curious" with original titles was on a Republic VHS tape from the early 90's.

I have the tape that contains it. What I'm talking about is the original copies of Famous toons that are out there but aren't talked about as much (i.e. these timecoded ones I've heard about)

Kevin,
You may want to contact Jerry Beck and ask him about those dubs. Then, there was the collector whose favorite was Old MacDonald Had a Farm; I'm sure he must have more good stuff on tape.

Hmm? I remember a time not too long ago when this cartoon was more popular in discussions than WB, for a refreshing & rare change!

Has anyone ever seen the Little Audrey cartoon "Tarts and Flowers" with the original Paramount titles? The only version I've been finding online is the U.M.&.M version (with only George Germanetti credited as animator; the original release credited both George Germanetti and Steve Mufatti as animators).

Plus, the colors in the U.M.&.M print are faded; the original release print would be much more brighter.

Don't you dare mention this over at The Animation Show Cartoon Forum unless you are wearing your armor!:p

Some reason I can't seem to get back over there at all. I think somebody over there has a vendetta over me. :p

I recall seeing the original titles, with the paramount logo cut off, on a DVD some year ago. I don't remember what DVD was but I recalled the soundtrack on all the cartoons was incredibly screwed up (music and dialogue were muffled with incredibly loud and sloppily added sound effects).

Another Noveltoon cartoon that I remember seeing the original titles to on a PD DVD, (couldn't tell you the name of this one either), is 1950's TEACHERS PEST.

For a few years now I have been under the impression that ALL of the Paramount Color cartoons exist complete with original opening titles and openings. Is anyone able to verify this?

I believe the DVD you saw that on was "Cartoon Crazys: Christmas".

And if anyone could post some pictures of the original titles for "Tarts and Flowers", I'd really appreciate it!

I have the entire cartoon with original opening / closing titles. Let me look for it and I'll see if I can upload it to Youtube or something.

Where are these prints coming from? Maybe, just maybe, we'll get to see all of the color Paramount cartoons with original titles, and even the black and white ones too.

I found that one on a PD-VHS tape about 8 years ago called, "Sugar And Spice". I originally bought it for a Little Lulu cartoon on it ("Cad And Caddy" which was a very very crappy red UM&M print), but was pleasantly surprised when I found "Tarts And Flowers" and "Goofy Goofy Gander" on it with their full original titles. *bonus* :D

Count me in for someone else who dreams about the day when I can watch a DVD collection of all the Paramount Noveltoon restored with their full original titles... sigh.

I have a original paramount print of the fleischer cartoon, "Always Kickin" on a cheap DVD I have. Is this rare at all?

An educated guess is PD video/DVD distributors, once learning that certain titles were public domain, combed through stock footage libraries and collectors to see what prints they have. Although the TV prints are always more common, looking for films is a crap shoot...ANYTHING could be out there. I've seen 35mms of Paramount cartoons on ebay from time to time.
