Boo! His inauguration is pre-empting Scrubs! :p
That helicopter should be 'escorting' Bush to a high security prison. GOOD RIDDANCE!

I thought Obama made a beautiful speech-although anybody else find the swearing in ceremony part a bit awkward?

I, too, loved Obama's speech. Here's to a successful presidency.
I voted for McCain, and I'm still voicing my support. :)

I thought Obama made a beautiful speech-although anybody else find the swearing in ceremony part a bit awkward?Yep. Chief Justice John Roberts asked President Obama to follow after him—then got several phrases in the wrong order. Obama had already started to repeat him, but noticed the disparity and waited till things were rephrased correctly.
Glad that's over.

Since I'm staying in SF to volunteer for Sketchfest, I went downtown to Civic Center this morning to watch some of the inauguration broadcast on the Jumbotron screen. I saw him get sworn in and make his speech, just to be able to say that I got to hear his voice echo throughout the city of SF, and y'all didn't. :p

Did anyone notice that just before the actual ceremony, cameras showed moving vans at The White House? Doesn't this underscore the nation's sentiment to move out the old President right away and get on with the new administration and business at hand?

I remember the commentators saying afterwards that the Chief Justice was not using a tele-promptor and was doing it from memory.
At first it seemed to me that Obama had jumped the gun a bit at the very start and that the Chief Justice had to gently get him back on track. Now I realize, as it has been pointed out, that it was the Chief Justice who was tripping Obama up.
Otherwise I thought the entire inauguration went off very well. I enjoyed the comments by that minister at the very end before the National Anthem was sung. Obama's 18+ minute speech was especially stirring.
My hat, however, goes off to Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, et al, for having the sheer physical and mental stamina to play acoustic instruments in 14-degree-Fahrenheit weather with no overcoats, hats or gloves (although the pianist did have on a pair of "fingerless gloves"). I'm guessing that the platform upon which they were performing had to be heated to some degree; otherwise they would catch their death from pneumonia.
I have to admit I was skeptical of Obama during the campaign after that whole controversy surrounding his "plagarism" of Massachusetts State Senator Deval Patrick. I figured that anyone who did not openly quote his sources was not to be trusted. After hearing that speech, however, I now feel he is the right man for the job.
I, too, am glad to be rid of "GW" once and for all... Cheney too! Those two were far too dangerous to be left in charge of things, IMO. I laughed when one of the commentators noted how both of them were "outdoors men"... I thought to myself, "Maybe they'll both be involved in another 'hunting accident' sometime soon(!)"
Let's just hope Obama can actually make good on the goals outlined in his speech.

THat's what me and my mom thought at first too. I also greatly enjoyed the classical musicians-Yo-Yo Ma and Yitzhak Perlman were especially impressive.
Ps.I hated Aretha Franklyn's hat no matter how warm it must have been.:p

I also saw the inauguration this morning. It was pretty classy. As the reporters noted, noone booed Bush when he came out. Whether Bush deserved it or not, this was a time for merriment and the crowd understood that.
I also enjoyed Barack's speech. It wasn't the greatest speech ever but I don't think he disappointed anyone.
I've commemorated this day with a little doodle on my blog (http://dmgermain.blogspot.com/2009/01/this-feels-good.html). It's not much, but it's something.

I voted for John McCain for reasons that I won't go into because I don't want this to become a long political thread.
I wish people would stop treating Barack Obama like Miley Cyrus, Pope John Paul II and Jesus Christ all wrapped into one. These people will be quite disappointed when Obama can't solve all the country's problems.
Those two things said, I wish President Obama a successful presidency. This country has lots of problems right now and he is going to have his hands full. I didn't think this country would elect a Black president at this time; that surprised me. I hope that people voted for him because they felt that he would make a better president than McCain, not because of his race.
Finally, I am glad to see Bush go. Worst president that I can remember.

Cheers to Obama. History has shown that tough times can create tough presidents. We'll wait and see. He certainly knows how to give a rousing speech.
How about that glare Bush gave to him when he said, "thank you"? That might be the first time I've ever seen him express an emotion other than utter cluelessness.
Couldn't agree with you more, Thad!

They should've just wheeled Dick Cheney into traffic. Another evil war criminal.

I also wish our new President the best.
Since the big event itself is over, I think now is a good time to close the thread (I can also sense where this thread would be heading if left open...).
