I was at a flea market today and saw a video that seemed iintriguing. It was a video release of Steamboat Willie, which appeared to only include the one short. I didn't buy it (I have three DVDs with that short already), but the cover said "Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie", with "1928" written underneath.
Does anybody know anything about this release? The cover had the classic image of Mickey Mouse steering the rowboat (the same image appears on both front and back). I saw that the running time was 2 minutes, more evidence that only the one cartoon was included (though I thought the cartoon was longer, even without the pig scene that often got censored before the Walt Disney Treasures collection began).
Could this have been part of a collection of videos featuring oen short each (which seems unusual... shorts are rarely released alone)? Could it have been a promotional videotape sent to video stores?

I vaguely recall reading about some sort of limited edition Mickey collectible which came with a VHS of "Steamboat Willie". I can't remember for the life of me what it was (most likely a limited edition cel or one of those expensive porcelain figures).

Wonder how old the video is...sounds like something that should be in my collection. Did I mention I have nearly 500 PD tapes...not including others!

Two minutes? Only ONE? This does not sound like a legitimate Disney release, especially if there is "writing" on it.

I'd have to go back, find the video, and check, but I'm pretty sure that it had the "Walt Disney Home Video" logo on the sides. When I looked I checked and couldn't find any copyright dates for the video release.

I have a Mickey PD VHS tape with "Mad Doctor" (1933) on it. Is that cartoon in the public domain?

Yes. So is MINNIE'S YOO HOO, typically paired with M.D. on the PD tapes.
