Just wondering, has anyone noticed the similarities between Pink Panther and some of the old Looney Tunes (especially those directed by Friz Freleng)? There are re-used gags, similar plotlines etc. Well, Pink Panther was a DFE production, so what do you expect? ;)
The list of reused gags would be VERY long, and I don't even know the full list. I do know that several gags were re-used from DFE LTs in the cartoon 'Pink on the Cob', but not sure about the others. Come on Boomerang, show more Pink Panthers...
Anyone else want to post a list of noticed similarities?

Some DFE cartoons that was a remake of previous WB cartoons
"A Self Winding Sidewinder" is similar to "Ballot Box Bunny"
"The Badge and the Beautiful" had the similar time-gag that was used throughout "The Golden Yeggs"
"A Taste of Money" was a remake "Honey's Money", which was a remake of "His Bitter Half"
The first "Tijuana Toads" was similar to Spike and Chester cartoons
"Crazylegs Crane" series from 1978 was similar to McKimson's Sylvester and Junior cartoons.
"The Ant and the Aardvark" and most of "The Blue Racer" was similar to Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote, and Speedy Gonzales.
"Touloose La Trick" = "D'Fightin' Ones"
"From Bed to Worst" = "Greedy for Tweety"

I always thought that The Ant and the Aardvark was similar in some way to Tweety and Sylvester.
Anyway, I can think of some similarities regarding gags and cartoon episodes.
"The Isle of Caprice" is similar to "Hawaiian Aye Aye."
A couple of gags were used in "Reel Pink" that were very similar to a couple of them in "Tugboat Granny": 1) the scene with the outboard motor that wouldn't start until after going over the waterfall; and 2) showing off as if water skiing, then colliding with a wooden pole. There was also a gag in this Pink Panther cartoon that was similar to that in "Sandy Claws": forcing a worm to get on the hook at gunpoint.
"Sicque! Sicque! Sicque!" is similar to "Hyde and Hare" and "Dr. Jerkyll's Hide."
"Pink Panzer" is somewhat similar to "Stooge for a Mouse" and "Bugsy and Mugsy."
"Ape Suzette" is similar to "Tree for Two" and "Dr. Jerkyll's Hide."
"The Deadwood Thunderball" is similar to "Wild and Woolly Hare" in some scenes.
"War and Pieces" is similar to "Captain Hareblower."
"Say Cheese, Please" is similar to "A Star is Bored."
"The Foul Kin" is similar in some way to "Fast Buck Duck."

Gags from "A Kiddie's Kitty" recur in "Pickled Pink" and "We Give Pink Stamps", and one of the post-1978 cartoons (don't remember the title) is essentially a remake of "A Kiddie's Kitty".
"G.I. Pink" has the same premise (though different gags) as "Forward March Hare".
"Pink Pranks" has distinct similarities to "Frigid Hare".
"Pink On the Cob" is a revisiting of the set-up in "Crow's Feat".
"Pink Plasma" owes some of its inspiration to "Transylvania 6-5000".
"Pink-Nic" is similar to "Snow Business".
"Le Quiet Squad" repeats some of the gags from "Notes to You" & "Back Alley Op-Roar".
"Le Great Dane Robbery" and "The Pink Package Plot" have premise in common with "Fast Buck Duck" (character trying to get past a guard dog).
"Slink Pink" is a rehash of "Cracked Quack", and "Slink Pink" and "What's My Lion" have something of a commonality as well.

"The Foul Kin" is similar in some way to "Fast Buck Duck."
I always thought it was similar to a Walter Lantz cartoon "Skinfolk", although the ending was different, IIRC.

"Bully For Pink"is somewhat simular to"Bully For Bugs".The last scene in"Daffy Duck's Easter Eggcitement"closely mirrors"Pinto Pink".The horse himself has the exact same laugh and almost looks like the same horse. The only difference is his color.Daffy's horse was a tan like brown. The Pink Panther's horse was white.
"Slink Pink" is a rehash of "Cracked Quack", and "Slink Pink" and "What's My Lion" have something of a commonality as well. And "What's My Lion" is very similar to Disney's "Rugged Bear". I think the fact that John Dunn originally worked at Disney has something to do with it.

And "What's My Lion" is very similar to Disney's "Rugged Bear". I think the fact that John Dudd originally worked at Disney has something to do with it.
Actually, the writer you're thinking of is not Dunn but Dave Detiege, another WB writer who got his start at Disney. Detiege is indeed credited with writing both "Rugged Bear" (At Disney) and "What's My Lion?" (at Warners).

Well, Detiege worked on DFE cartoons anyway.
Oh, and DFE also reused couple of gags from "Pinto Pink" to "Giddy Up Woe". Not really a remake though. (however, the horse in "Giddy Up Woe" looks very much like the one in "Pinto Pink", except the horse was brown. The horse even had that laugh)
BTW, Kevin, that post-1978 Pink Panther cartoon you might be thinking of is "Pink Lemonade" (just to let you know, that cartoon has absolutly nothing to do with lemons)

Another WB remake
"Watch the Birdie" (The Dogfather; 1975) is a very sad remake of "Dr. Jerkyl's Hyde".
Actually, the writer you're thinking of is not Dunn but Dave Detiege, another WB writer who got his start at Disney. Detiege is indeed credited with writing both "Rugged Bear" (At Disney) and "What's My Lion?" (at Warners). I thought I might of been getting confused between the two!

Another remake
"Mother Dogfather" is similar to a Daffy Duck cartoon where he tries to get rid of a dunken stork that's trying to deliver a baby (I forgot the title). The stork's place in the Dogfather cartoon was Crazylegs Crane.
