Did anyone else happen to catch this?

Last night TCM aired the third and final installment of its "More Treasures From American Film Archives" series (showcasing rare film clips from the 1890s to the 1930s, as preserved by various film archives like UCLA, the Library of Congress, the Museum of Modern Art, etc).

Toward the end of the program they featured a Dave Fleischer "Sing-A-Long" cartoon from 1924. Neato!! :)

Incidentally, the "More Treasures" series is available in its entirety on a 3-DVD box set from Turner. You can purchase it here (http://turnerclassic.moviesunlimited.com/product.asp?sku=D65853++&mscssid=G1G358XMEX2D8PHNX43CU3EDPHE3DUN6), if you're so inclined. (And scroll down the same page for a great Windsor McKay DVD!)

Some was shown on Monday? Interesting. I missed it the first Sunday it was on, because I kept thinking it was on the day before. I caught two hours of the second one and most of the one on Sunday. I managed to see two and a half Fliesher cartoons and a fast-paced Rin Tin Tin movie, not to mention some interesting tidbits of news clippings, talking presidents, theatre contests and previews for movies that may no longer exist!

It was interesting stuff. I'm sure the DVD set is even great as well. Apparently, every film featured on the DVD set has its own commentary.

Robert Osbourne and his guest spoke of something we all strive to do: locate and distribute lost or otherwise rare films. Most of us may never find one on our own, but by spreading the word, more people will be aware of the treasures they may have in their attics.

I tuned in during "Lady Windemere's Fan" and shut off the tv after it ended so I missed the cartoons. (I have to go to bed sometime!) However, last week I stayed up a little later and did see a Fleischer cartoon about how not to abuse your telephone. (Yes, it had some live action in it too, but not the mixture I was led to believe it had from the intro.) It was worth it to stay up and watch it.

I find this series absolutely fascinating and would recommend that anyone who can at least tune into this series on Sunday nights to do so. I am certainly going to add the dvd set to my wish list. :D

It wasn't a sing-along cartoon. It was a Dave(sans Max) Fleischer Ink Aling short a short lived series since there are only three surviving titles.
