Okay, folks, 2008 will be soon over, so here goes again our list of animation-related anniversaries for the forthcoming year:
100th anniversary of Jack Kinney, Woolie Reithermann, Bobe Cannon, Milt Kahl, Irv Spence, Dave Tendlar, Jules Engel, Al Eugster and Winston Sharples (any others?)
80th anniversary of Popeye
80th anniversary of Tintin
75th anniversary of Donald Duck
70th anniversary of Batman
70th anniversary of Gulliverīs Travels
60th anniversary of Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote
60th anniversary of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
50th anniversary of Quick Draw McDraw (and Augie Doggie and Snooper & Blabber)
50th anniversary of Rocky & Bullwinkle
50th anniversary of Sleeping Beauty (Disney recently put out the new SB DVD as a '50th anniversary edition', but actually it was released in January 1959)
40th anniversary of Scooby Doo (ugh! but he had to be listed, anyway)
40th anniversary of Cattanooga Cats
30th anniversary of Banjo the Woodpile Cat (Don Bluthīs first independent production)
20th anniversary of The Simpsons (if you donīt count their short segments on The Tracey Ullmann Show)
20th anniversary of The Little Mermaid
You will note that I am not listing any 25th anniversaries; you will probably agree with me that 1984 was still a dark, very little creative period in the field of animation (Get Along Gang or Turbo Teen, anyone?).
