São Paulo - SP, Brazil, December 5, 2008 (20 days remaining for the Christmas!).

Hello, friends from GAC, Yesterdaylanders, Memory Laners, Retrolanders and HB-fans from the Americas and the whole world!

Among the Yogi Bear classical episodes - which were presented in The Huckleberry Hound Show (Hanna-Barbera/Columbia Pictures, 1958-62) and in the classical Yogi Bear Show (Hanna-Barbera/Columbia Pictures, 1960-62) -, in terms of layout, there are some episodes which have the layouts done by the legendary Ed Benedict (who created the old and good "HB style"; as also gave shape to the Jellystone Park's most famous resident).
And here are the Yogi Bear classical episodes which has the layouts made by Ed Benedict (whose snapshots are depicted below):

- High Fly Guy. Animated by Lewis Marshall (and part by Michael Lah).

In 1999, John Kricfalusi (from the Ren & Stimpy fame) directed two new Yogi Bear shorts: A Day in the Life of Ranger Smith and Boo Boo Goes Wild.
A Day in the Life of Ranger Smith (which's the funniest from these two shorts) brings the layouts made by Ed Benedict.
There's a scene where Mr. Ranger enjoys to confiscate the nuts from a dippy squirrel (echoes of Tex Avery?). On this scene, Ranger Smith appears drawn by Ed Benedict. Here are the snapshots:

Well, this was what I've had the report here.
Tchau!

Cheers from this faithful friend who always writes 4 U,

You're always welcome!

While the layouts are the basic drawn "design" for the backgrounds and characters, but the execution displayed here is the result of background painter "Monte" Montelegre. It is the style and look of the backgrounds that was matched in the Kricfalusi reincarnations that is most noteworthy, again based on the Ed Bennedict layout style.

The layouts in Nowhere Bear are definitely more minimalistic than in the other cartoons.

According to this John K. blog (http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2006/11/art-lozzi-scooter-looter-paint.html), the backgrounds for Scooter Looter were crafted by Art Lozzi.

Again, the actual look is credited to the background painter since this is what we are seeing, and not Ed Benedict's "layouts," which were pencil drawings--the foundation design for the backgrounds, which were finalized by the BG painter.

Ray Pointer,

Besides Scooter Looter, there are more two Yogi Bear classical episodes which has the backgrounds painted by Art Lozzi: Robin Hood Yogi and Daffy Daddy.
We can identify the Art Lozzi's backgrounds by the strong presence of the green on the arborized scenography in these shorts.
I can even swear that the backgrounds in one of the two new Yogi Bear shorts directed by Johnny K. in 1999 - A Day in the Life of Ranger Smith -, had influences from the Art Lozzi's scenographic work, mainly on the constant use of the green on the arborized background. The backgrounds were made by Gabe Swarr, which were totally inspired on the Art Lozzi's backgrounds.

I am well aware of Art Lozzi's presence at H-B Enterprises, the original company that became Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1959. Unfortunately, it has been some time since I have watched the original credits on these cartoons, and since I do not have the DVDs, nor the time to study them,
I have not made a point to commit one artist's work over the next other than what I do know on the surface. Again, we are discussing the work of background artists, and not the layouts of Ed Benedict, which is what this thread is about.

Hello, fellas from GAC!

I've ended including more updates on this topic.
It's refering to the animators who were involved on the classical Yogi Bear episodes which contain the Ed Benedict's design.
Enjoy to see them!
