Hi. This is about the UK Pink Panther DVD set.

I read that the cartoon is cropped on top and bottom (expect "A Fly in the Pink", from what I heard). Just wondering if anyone who has it can post screenshots from the set. I'm curious how bad it is.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can post which Pink Panther shorts DO contain laugh tracks on the UK DVD set (and specifically, if my favorite episode "Pink Panzer" does - I certainly hope not).

Thanks,
Drew

There were few Panther cartoons with laughtrack. I know THESE do -

Gong with the Pink (Hawley Pratt; 1971)
Trail of the Lonesome Pink (Gerry Chiniquy; 1974)

Rumor has it MGM/UA appearantly lost the original, untampered soundtrack, so the one with laughtrack had to be used.

"Psychedelic Pink", "Pink Punch", and "Shocking Pink" all have laughtracks. Two of these were released on laserdisc (THE PINK PANTHER ANIMATION ARCHIVE) without laugh tracks. MGM could have ported over the audio track from the laserdisc masters and combined it with the remastered video. I think it more likely MGM just threw the most available prints of the cartoons, laugh track or no, onto the DVDs. "Pink Streaker", taken from a long neglected TV print, looks horrible. "Pink Blue Plate" sounds horrible. And there is a screen-spanning black dropout right square in the middle of a scene in "Bully For Pink".
