This 1945 Donald Duck short holds a special place in my heart for its appearance in A Walt Disney Christmas. A special I watched all the time as a kid when Christmas rolled around. It's a satire of life as a blue collar clerical worker that, even today, still manages to be quite effective. Donald's interaction with his lively-yet-condescending boss is great, as is the build-up (where he can never seem to get a break - literally and figuratively speaking) leading to the big finale where Donald is finally pushed to the edge and goes upstairs to give his boss a piece of his mind.

Great cartoon! My favorite part was when Donald plays around with the speaker as his boss was talking and when he turned a trumpet into a French horn while using a vise.

Ah It's been a long time since I've seen a Disney short. It's always good to take a step back from looney tunes and terry toons and watch a Donald Duck cartoon. great stuff with the french horn, fish bowl, and the perfum.( A manager would know the name of a perfum) Also was it just me or did that jack-in-the-box's smile turn to an evil sneer?

I think Donald's behavior at the end represents something we'd all like to do to our bosses we don't like. Another part I enjoy is when Donald comes in a little late, but uses a magnet to make the hands on the time clock go back so that he can punch in on time.

okay....one thing I noticed that may have been edited out on The Walt Disney Christmas but appeared on The Chronological Donald DVD is the 2nd voice that came out of the speaker when Donald was playing with it (@ 4:55 - 5:01).

Yes, the jerk-in-the-box was indeed evil.

I sometimes wonder if this was intended to be a Christmas cartoon, despite its January release in 1945.

Lots of great gags here, and Donald's frustration in the blue-collar work force is not only funny, but true.

I think you mean the Rochester voice.

It's very possible. Perhaps Disney wanted it out the prior December but couldn't finish it on time. Or may be whoever's in charge of movie distribution just didn't have the time to tack it onto the December, 1944 release calendar.

I think you mean the Rochester voice.

Guess that would explain why it was edited out.

If that was supposed to be Rochester it was a poor attempt.
