Can someone tell me which cartoons from this DVD were actually restored?
Is Disney planning on revisiting this and giving us replacement discs?

As for the restored shorts, I would say any of the wartime ones that have been released on the "On the Front Lines" set a year before.

I was watching it this afternoon...it looks like they were the only ones restored.
Out of all the sets that have the color shorts of the Disney characters (Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto), they only dropped the ball with Donald Volume 2 right?
You think complaining about this to Disney might help?

Speaking of Chronological Donald, has Disney reveal the boxart for Chronological Donald volume 4 yet?

What was the specific problem with this particular volume, was it only that some of the cartoons weren't restored or were there other issues? I thought someone had once said that there were instances of excessive DVNR on a few of the cartoons, as well. Maybe I was thinking of that "Best Pals: Donald and Daisy" set that came out a few years back... I think there was some DVNR on that DVD as well as the one featuring Huey, Dewey and Louie from a related DVD series.
About 3 months ago I had ordered and received replacement discs for the "More Silly Symphonies" set. The problems with that set were faulty disc menu listings and a few cartoons that did not have restored original opening titles. The replacement DVD's did indeed correct those problems.

No, the cartoons on Pluto Volume 2 aren't restored either.

No, the cartoons on Pluto Volume 2 aren't restored either.Yes they are.
The unrestored cartoon phenomenon struck exclusively in Wave Five, with Donald Vol 2 and Disney Rarities only. The cartoons were transferred to DVD from washed-out 1980s VHS masters, complete with print degradation and tape-based artifacts.
Disney returned to its previous method for Wave Six (Pluto Vol 2 and More Silly Symphonies) and onward: almost all of the shorts were once again remastered from film sources and restored in the process.
Note that I say "almost all": for inexplicable reasons, GODDESS OF SPRING on More Silly came once again from what appeared to be an unrestored 1980s VHS master. It's especially odd when a much better remastered version was clearly sourced for the accompanying documentaries.
The corrected pressing of More Silly has a slightly better transfer of GODDESS, but it still seems to be taken from that VHS master.

Yes they are.
That's odd, they don't look restored to me. Unless they did a very understated job on it. The colours don't seem to be as rich as those on the first Pluto set, there are a few artifacts that weren't cleaned up (not blotches that were already photographed on general spicks and specks), in fact, the picture quality appears to be quite similar to that on the 2nd Donald set (though not quite as poor). Or quite possibly, they restored everybody else's Pluto Vol 2. set except mine. That tends to happen.

The black and white cartoons in the "More Silly Simphonies" set are restored, not the rest of the cartoons included in it (with the exceptions of the ones that were already restored).
Same thing for the second Pluto set: only the ones already restored look good.
No new restoration was done for these sets.
A new restoration of "Goddess of Spring" is however available on a Disney dvd.

This is what made me mad....
On disc 2 of Donald Volume 2, the short No Sail (with Goofy) looks horrible. This is the short with the WORSE picture quality.
Now look at Leonard Maltin's introduction with the clip from No Sail....it's restored.
What happened???

The print of No Sail on the Extreme Adventure Fun DVD (released in early 2005, months before the second Donald Treasure) apparently WAS restored, since it looks absolutely beautiful and blows the Treasure version out of the water.
Possibly that's where the No Sail footage from the Maltin intro comes from.

Now that's ridiculous. Disney has to fix this!!!

That's odd, they don't look restored to me. Unless they did a very understated job on it.That might be the best way of putting it. Wave six (unlike wave five) was definitely remastered from film and/or neg sources, but restoration above and beyond that isn't as full as what was done in waves four and earlier.

Did we ever have any statement from Disney as to why and how this happened? Is it too late for a replacement program?
Just from watching the sets themselves (rather than knowing anything about it!) I have to agree that although the restoration on Wave Six was a massive improvement over the awful Wave 5, it wasn't as good as some of the earlier Waves. Luckily Last year's Wave Seven was a return to form and the cartoons looked great.

OK....so I just got off the phone with a Disney tech and they said that what's on these discs are the best prints they could find (bla bla bla) and they have no intention on revisiting this or offering replacement discs.
Maybe someone of a higher power like Jerry Beck might have more influence?

It's been 3 years now since this package came out, and with not even a confirmation from Disney Home Video that there is a problem ... I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.

Rarities were sourced from old video transfers as well... truly dissapointing!
