I'm kinda surprised that TCM will not be showing the boy's initial 1929 sound releases and their most famous short, "Another Fine Mess".But with no dvd release(here on the states)in sight, I urge everyone who loves the Hal Roach comedies to get their recorders running this weekend.
And as a special bonus, TCM will air three Hal Roach talkies, Sunday morning as well.
All times (EST)
5:38am The Knockout (32) "The Boyfriends"
8:40am Call Her Sausage (33) "The Taxi Boys"

What sucks, though, is that they won't show them on the Canadian feed. They don't have the rights for up here. That sounds like BS. Lionsgate owns the Little Rascals and L&H, why can't they be shown up here?

Help a Canadian fan out, can't ya?

I always got a kick out of 1931's Beau Hunks, as well as The Music Box. Can anyone tell me if the one Laural and Hardy film where the two put away a criminal, end up staying with the ciminals (who escapes) girlfriend/wife will be shown (that was another one that I always enjoyed).

That's GOING BYE-BYE (1934), but it's not on tomorrow's schedule.

Anyone who caught "Pardon Us" this morning, did anyone notice what happened to the sound during the last several minutes?I would bet it was a blunder on Hallmark's part.So far the marathon is great and notice that some of the prints looked dark("One Good Turn" for example)and some contained the Film Classic verisons, which usually mispelled names and certain titles.
In regards to the "Taxi Boys" short that will air tomorrow morning(see first thread for time)be on the lookout, as there is a famous cartoon voice artist that appears in this short and the gentleman is none other than Billy Bletcher.

I'm too a fellow canadian who don't have TCM but was upset to learn that no Laurel & Hardy shorts was aired in our TCM. I mean, why they can't unite their forces for having a identical schedule for the North America? I mean, like Mark Evanier says, how today's generations could recognise them if we don't air them on TV?
Just a question like that.

I don't have a list handy... Did TCM air anything that isn't on the Region 2 boxset?

.
I did notice the sound malfunction. Good thing I had it already. And there was a small edit in "Our Wife" but other than that a great marathon.
In regards to the silents don't expext to see them in the near future. There owned by Hal Roach and I've never seen them on TV. The DVDs Lost Films series seems to ahve gone out of print.

Really? There was an edit in "Our Wife"?Which scene was edited and I did have a couple of problems with marathon.First the print for "One Good Turn" looked very dark and I can't understand on why TCM would use the television and edited print of "Pack Up Your Troubles"?It was very hard for me to enjoy this film with the fake fade outs(while a person was speaking)which made me change the channel.
BTW:Did anyone enjoy the other Roach shorts that aired the next day?

Theres an edit after Hardy says "Why did you get a thing like this for?" (Referring to the tiny car) Laurel is about to answer but its cut to Hardy saying" Come on lets get in" I never saw an original print so I don't know what was cut out. Probabley just dialogue.

Today I spotted in a store in Munich on DVD the black & white film "Hollywood Party" which includes the very funny "egg" scene with Laurel & Hardy. The DVD issued by Warner Brothers has no extras. Included in the film is the color disney cartoon "Red Hot Chocolate Soldiers. I am sure that this will soon - if not already - be issued in the US.
Two other Warner DVDs of Laurel & Hardy were issued, one containing "Air Raid Wardens" and the other "Nothing But Trouble".

Since RHI and Genius are doing a complete, restored Little Rascals (nee Our Gang) set, my hopes are raised that "the boys" will be next in line.
Now if RHI and Genius would only release Animalympics on DVD, along with the non-"big two" Roach back catalog, Hallmark's mistreatment of the RHI catalog will once and for all be reversed...

FYI, there is a region 2/PAL version of "Animalympics" on DVD in Germany. It is called "Die Dschungel-Olympiade" and can be seen on Amazon.de at:

It has english audio.

I don't think I have seen it. If I can remember and I see it - will send PM. The german name is "Sternschnuppen". Check Amazon.de every so often In a bookstore on Marianplatz I saw a few LH on minor labels that I don't have (ex Great Guns and The Bullfighters) for circa 7.50 EU.
I am slowly compiling my L&H list from the german Kinowelt- I've determined that I have all the L&H from the Kinowelt series. I will probably post my list. The link http://www.blotto.nl/index.php/weblog/dvd/ is not too good. My list will have the DVD-number and not the "release date" and indicate silent films and the Chase comedies.
