I am in my glory as I have found a cartoon posted on YouTube that I haven't seen in probably 30 years, namely "No Place Like Rome", a Famous Studios Kartune from 1953. This was one of my favs way back when, as I always loved the "Bouncing Ball" cartoons. What I really love, in addition to singing along with "Oh Ma Ma", is the fantastic Winston Sharples opening theme to these Kartunes with a really rousing version of "Sing A Song of Six Pence." I really think Winston Sharples is under-rated for his musical contributions to classic cartoons. His theme to these Famous Studios Kartunes is really great and sets the pace for a fun cartoon.

Wasn't it this forum's very own Larry T that posted that cartoon to YouTube in the first place? ;)

Yes it was. It shows DJLarryT as the person who posted it. Thanks Larry.

Glad you liked it- I have a blog entry on that cartoon (though not much of it pertains to Famous Studio's history on the cartoon though :) ).

I also like those Famous Studios Sing-a-longs myself.... learned a lot of my contemporary tunes from them as a kid as they were shown every day at lunchtime. And you're right, Winston Sharples' renditions of those songs is usually a great example of a fantastic score. Imagine being in the theatre in the 40s and 50s and singing along with the entire audience while the cartoon plays. ;)

I wish I could see "Drippy Missisisppi" another Paramount/Harveytoons "Bouncing Ball" cartoon from 1951. If I am correct, the song in this one is "M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I". I actually learned how to spell Mississippi from that cartoon.
