I have some videos on DVD that I want to make videos out of on my computer, but haven't figured out yet how to do that. Do I need a DVR or something else. I tried running Windows Media Player, and thought I could "burn" them, but apparently the files need to be stored seperatly on the computer with a blank disc in. Need help here on what to do. Thanks.

I bought something called AllDj DVD to MPEG for $30 online

http://www.alldj.com/dvd_to_mpeg/dvd-to-mpeg.htm

I think you want to take parts of the DVDs and cut them down and upload them
to YouTube or something...? With this, you find the points where you want to
cut and it converts it to MPEG for you. Upload to YouTube, DailyMotion
etc from there.

With it I was able to do YouTube vids like this
(Houndcats) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2zdXpeTpzI

I also did smaller clips, like these old drive in ads
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95ND1YOXCFs

In most cases the orig source was DVD but sometimes I had something on
VHS. I either had a friend with a DVD recorder dub them to DVD, or
I did it myself with the DVD recorder I got a few months back.

My comp. (a fairly cheap E-machines) has a DVD play and record drive.
I think I need special software to burn things to DVDs that I can play on
a reg DVD player though I did a trial version of one product (forget which
one) and got the entire ONCE UPON A FOREST movie dubbed (via
various clips on YouTube). Only prob of course is that as a trial version
there was a popup message _every minute_. I think I got rid of that or maybe
I still have it; I forget.

Gee, thanks AnthroCoon for the softwares links. I still want to had my own Mpeg instead to search my favourite videos in the Net. I got only the free trial of Alldj DVD now.
