I know it will come on DVD.But,what happens in the special?Anything realy cool happen?:bugs1:It was a series of then-stars of the Hollywood scene commenting on Bugs, followed by clips of cartoons to illustrate the point of the comments. Hulk Hogan of course talked about "Bunny Hugged" and "Rabbit Punch". Chuck Norris said that Bugs' adversaries were crazy, followed by Tasmanian Devil scenes. Wonder Years' Fred Savage referred to Bugs as the rabbit Romeo and asked for advice on love-making, followed by Bugs' romantic scenes. Cindy Williams described Bugs as Kevin Costner in rabbit fur, accompanied by a scene in "Hair-Raising Hare" of Bugs kissing the female rabbit robot. This kind of thing. Daffy was organizing a counter-celebration for himself in response to the praises being lavished on Bugs. Whoopi Goldberg talked about the passing of Mel Blanc, as we saw the famous "Speechless" image. Toward the end of the show, we had a glorious montage of 50 Years of Bugs Bunny in 3 1/2 minutes. Unfortunately, some cartoons, including my personal favorite, were completely omitted from the show's clips.

It was more or less a Hollywood fluff kind of affair, but I have fond memories of it nevertheless.

Granted it's not the best television special ever done, but I just hope it's uncut this time. The VHS version sliced a few minutes off here and there.

Well, I always enjoyed this special. I thought it was well written, well-done, and an overall perfect tribute. Seeing some of those stars honor Bugs was a real treat.

It could have been done a little better but at least it was good of them to remember Bugs turning 50 enough to make a TV special out of it. Some cartoon stars would just as soon go entirely neglected!

"Happy Birthday, Bugs: 50 Looney Years" (1990) isn't on the DVD, it's going to be "The Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes 50th Anniversay Special" from 1986. At least, that's what I've heard.

Is this going to be released on DVD on it's own?

No, it's going to be included among the bonus material on Golden Collection Vol. 2.

Now that we've got a handle on which special we're dealing with:D , I remember the '86 show as being a much more historically-driven thing...clips of Freleng, Jones and Blanc talking about the creation of Bugs and the other characters. There was still plenty of "celebrities talking about Bugs like he's a real actor" stuff (for some reason Geraldine Page sitting in a cafeteria and rambling on comes to mind), but I remember much preferring this '86 special to the '90 affair.

Any other memories of the '86 special?

Any other memories of the '86 special?

I remember them showing the scene of Porky quitting from "You Ought To Be In Pictures", then it was treated as if Porky really had quit for good. Various celebrities commented on how depressed Porky got, with one commenting "and he put on a LOT of weight", then they showed a clip from "Gold Diggers of '49" of Porky raiding the icebox.
