Upon visiting Dave Mackey's (restored) WB filmography pages, I have found more lost production #s discovered for almost all Blue Ribbon reissues of Merrie Melodies cartoons (although the ones that interest me the most are up to the 9900s; as this then turned over during 1941 and then Vitaphone #s were no longer used after 1943).

Wow! Someone's been going over my site with a fine-toothed comb.

My source for these numbers is the book "Vitaphone Films", released in 2003. I will eventually have the release numbers for all WB cartoons through the end of the studio - the studio did continue assigning release numbers, even though other numbers (the cartoon studio's production numbers) were shown on screen through the end of the original-studio releases.

No it's not... that was directed by Friz Freleng. You must be thinking of Buckaroo Bugs.

Close but no cigar. It's another cartoon I'm thinking of though, with "the bull-fighter". And trust me, if BB was a BR, then I would be shocked. Bugs' first whole cartoon at the house Porky built.

Well, technically, MM could be the house Bugs built, so there ya go!

I wish I could make out the production number on my digital copy of "Pingo Pongo" but so far, no such luck.

Only 30's missing are "Buddy's Bug Hunt" (which we have to get off the film), "Old Glory" and "The Isle of Pingo Pongo".

Only 40's missing are "Little Red Riding Rabbit" and "Bugs Bunny Rides Again" - can't get those off the film because by then the numbering was switched to the cartoon studio production numbers.

Great Work! I knew someone had to have a print of the film out there. I've only got "Old Glory" from the 1930's to track down now, and that will probably happen next week when I hit Rutgers again.

And "The Isle of Pingo-Pongo". I hint "Old Glory" may bear a production # of 8921.

Pingo Pongo, as mentioned a few messages ago, is 8402.

Old Glory is 9239.

Here's the complete list from 1930-1943. (http://www.davemackey.com/animation/wb/vitaphonenos.html)

Thank you and good afternoon.

Thank you, Dave. That means "Old Glory" has the honor of being the only 1938-39 season/green rings titles short with any 9000-range production number (all the other early 9000-range titles were from the 1939-40 season and had multicolored rings titles), and also the only WB animated short with any 9200-range production number.

The list (http://www.davemackey.com/animation/wb/vitaphonenos.html) now includes every Warner Bros. cartoon. It's important to note that these are not the numbers that appear at the start of the cartoons after 1943, but they're all here for completeness sake.

Great work! I have to ask though, are those numbers any indication of what order the cartoons were made or are they what order they were scheduled to be released?

The production numbers (like 11-13 or 1050) were assigned during production by the cartoon studio.

The release numbers (or Vitaphone numbers) were determined by Warner afterwards, but in some cases (shorts particularly) an onscreen number was needed to the projectionist could make sure the right Vitaphone disc was playing. The release numbers are in close order to actual release dates, and you'll find if you look at the list of just the cartoons a whole bunch of gaps, to account for features, comedy shorts like Joe McDoakes, and travelogues (which explains "Old Glory" with the only # in the 9200's). Bear in mind too that until after the war, WB assigned one number per reel on features. So a feature could be represented by multiple numbers.

Dave, I too want to thank for want you are doing for us. I mean, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't never guess that my mom shares the same birth month and day with Birds Anonymous.

By the way, could you try fixing the Production Order page. The sloppyness on there is mostly distracing.
