Follow the link below in my signature (to my blog) and you'll find an original version of a Betty Boop cartoon that we've always seen in the UM&M or NTA version!
Enjoy. :betty:

That's a stupendous find, Tom.Especially since most of the original Betty titles are lost forever now.

That was great Tom! Awsome!

It's nice to see that original title. I've got one from Betty Boop & Grampy... though not as nice of shape...)

Thanks Levi, Steve, and J.A.
I'm pretty sure many more Bettys were put out on 16mm for rental (complete sound prints, not the Keystone/Exclusive home movie prints) in the early 40s. It's just a matter of waiting for them to turn up. Same for some of :sailor: 's IIRC.

It's nice not only to see the opening Paramount titles, but also the animators credits, since this was one of the Betty cartoons where UM&M removed everything except for the main title card (the difference between the UM&M and the available PD versions of "Musical Mountaineers" is the same, and at least 25-30 other Boop, Talkartoon and Screen Songs also had their animators credits removed).

Not a big surprise to see this was a Dave Tendlar short, since Grampy was his character to begin with, but it's nice to see it confirmed. Thanks for posting it, Tom.

Do you think the animator credits were cut out of some of the original negatives too? We all know that the Paramount logos are gone from the negatives, but would they really cut out the credits?

Also, I wonder if the "wipes" (which I had never seen before) used with this style of title cards are also lost forever? Seeing so many of the "column" titles with the original transitions to credits (as well as the original Paramount copyright lines) on "official" VHS releases gives me hope that they aren't.

Yes, pretty much all those edits were made in the negatives... ouch.
With the exception of a few that retained credits, I guess it was just easiest for them to reprint title sequences with just the main title card and not complicate it further by using more than one card. Seems silly and diabolical to us, but always remember the financial reasoning behind this and that originally no future was seen for most cartoons beyond the initial theatrical runs! We're lucky to have anything in some cases, and understandably, we have nothing in many cases.
