On the Golden Collections, the back of the box has a note that a number of cartoons included in the set are also available in the corresponding Spotlight Collections. I wonder what Warner's logic for this is. It seems like an advertisement for the Spotlight collections, but by pointing this out, does Warner Bros. really expect the average collector to buy both? Maybe a non-hardcore fan would buy a Spotlight Collection first, and then be interested in buying the Golden Collections. Another thing is that it points out that half the cartoons are also on the spotlight collection, possibly giving casual fans a choice, but I don't think the cartoon titles are listed. They might be on the Premiere/ Spotlight Collections (I don't own any of them, but have looked at the back of the boxes).

I own one Spotlight Collection, but my understanding is that all of the sets have followed this format:

The Spotlight Collections have 2 discs that copy the exact same cartoons, in the same running order as 2 of the discs in the Golden Collection - but without the bonus features. These are not custom-created "best of" distillations, but a cheap way for WBHV to squeeze out a few more sales with the least amount of effort.

For example Spotlight Collection 2 is simply Disc 3 and Disc 4 of Golden Collection 2 without the bonus features.

Why they would advertise the Spotlight Collections inside the Golden Collections is something of a mystery. Unless they are figuring that someone who bought, say, Golden Collection 5 may not own any other volumes and may choose to add to their collection through the Spotlight Collections.

I actually think the reverse might be better marketing - i.e. "if you enjoyed this Spotlight Collection, there's a LOT more where these came from..." - and then pitch the Golden Collections with more cartoons and tons of bonus features.

I know that, and I guess it makes sense if somebody buys a later volume first sees it and decides to buy other ones to add to their collection, though it's still odd when that note is included in volume 1, since obviously there weren't any other volumes at the time that was released.

Do the Spotlight Collections have a list of contents on the back of the packaging?

Volume 3 is the only one not to have that note, because when thatw as released, Warner Bros. opted to release the Movie Collection instead (and of course it's a shame that there weren't more movie colections after that).

The SPOLIGHT COLLECTIONS are geared more towards a family audience and don't include the many extras and risque (read: politically incorrect) cartoons that have been released on the GOLDEN COLLECTIONS.

That's pretty much it, guys - don't read more into it

Something that just occured to me, though I might be wrong: perhaps the Golden Colections mention that 26 or however cartoons on the sets are also on the Spotlight Collections so that those who don't look up this stuff online would know not to waste their money on both if they choose to buy the Golden Collections.

Speedy, I think you may have hit on it. Perhaps this is one of those "truth in packaging" deals.

WBHV puts that notice on the Golden Collection as a defense against someone buying both a Golden and Spotlight package and then getting upset because they duplicate cartoons.

For the most part they do not put contents (except for just a few titles) on the backs of the either version of the Looney Tunes' packaging.

I think they do, or the ones i saw did.No, they do not. At least the one I own and two more that I've seen.

Maybe the Spotlight Looney Movie Collection has one, but the ones I've seen that re-package the cartoons from the Golden Collections do not.
