19 cartoons on each LTGC#6 disc! Fantastic news, but I wonder if there will be less extras to accommodate these extra shorts (I'm hoping at least the commentaries/music tracks & The Bugs Bunny Show excerpts won't be sacrificed).
BTW, this is the first time I'm listening to this show.

Apparently, Porky's Duck Hunt was one of the prints that had to be held back because it would cost WB more money to restore, because it's in horrible shape.
Although this is apocryphal at the moment (and Jerry can back me up if he wants to), I'm just kind of p.o.'ed that WB just ISN'T taking the effort to restore these prints "because it would cost too much".

Glad to see Norman Normal listed... that's the only one mentioned that really
interests me. I'm hoping there will be an entire disc dedicated to wartime material as I remember WHV hinting at something special re. the Warner Bros. wartime cartoons "aimed at collector's" from a HTF chat over a year ago. Perhaps it'll mainfest itself in this next Vol...

All you guys are posting is good news. I listened to about half an hour's worth, and Jerry distinctly mentioned the fire at Universal burning up the masters, a contradiction of Thad's previous statement in the fire thread. He said that because making new masters is an expensive process, and that many of the films may need to be restored again, and spruced up for viewing in other ways, it could take years for more Woody, if they decide to release them at all, and the same goes for TV shows like "Leave It To Beaver." Stu mentioned some company who leased the rights to release Universal's shows and that this company might no longer be able to release these.
The two Popeye sets do sound exciting, though. The inclusion of wartime shorts in the sixth Golden Collection, however, sounds ambiguous. They're probably going to release some of the tamer ones, but at least it's a start, and I like the idea of releasing more than 60 shorts this time around. Perhaps their yearly budget has increased. Three cheers for Jerry for winning at least part of his battle to include some wartime shorts!

It sounds to me like they didn't have the money this year to finish restoring this particular short as well as they can, so they're finishing it up next year, rather than release it before the restoration is complete. Some cartoons must cost more than others to restore, and it probably has something to do with the condition of the short and the amount of detail of the artwork. It probably costs more to restore a detailed, colourful Clampett cartoon than it does to restore a post '64 cartoon. I'm sure the restoration team would rather restore "Porky's Duck Hunt" flawlessly, even if it meant holding back several lesser cartoons.

That's awesome news, because I felt that the biggest omissions on the Bob Clampett disc from Volume 5 were Russian Rhapsody and Horton Hatches the Egg, so I'm glad to see they're going to be on Volume 6. That basically puts all the best Clampett color shorts on the GC's, besides Coal Black of course. Now all I hope for is one or two of the remaining Tashlin shorts from the 40's, and one or two Davis shorts, and I will take whatever else they give us.
Thanks for the thread. :) As i'am from Australia it was hard to listen to the show as it would've been in the wee hours of the morning, im only really interested in LTCG#6 and its good to read alot of news about the upcoming volume.. 76 shorts.. WooHoo..

Didn't hear the show, but I'm going to make a prediction. On LTGC 6 we'll see: A Wild Hare, Rhapsody In Rivets, Now Hear This, Nelly's Folly, Sandy Claws at the very least. I'm hoping for Horton Hatches The Egg, Chow Hound, and, Bob McKimson's one shot, Rapid Rabbit. You know the one I mean, right? Rapid Rabbit is the bunny who has a bicycle horn and he always sneaking up on this fox and pretty soon, HONK HONK, like the Road Runner.

Great to see so many details - love that we're getting more cartoons per disc! Yes, it might mean fewer extras, but really, they were running out of giant hour-long documentaries to put on there.
Interesting news about the wartime cartoons. I note that Jerry saying he had to fight to get things like Russian Rhapsody on there likely means another no-Censored 11 set, not that this comes as a surprise.
If I were WB, and I had Chow Hound on this set, I would promote that heavily. I know at least four of my casual cartoon friends who will happily buy the set knowing the 'gravy' cartoon is on there.

I don't think they'll be so "bad boys" to re-sell us all the cartoons already in the "Academy Award" set, but I guess few of them will be in it.
I'll soon get my copy of the Popeye set but I already know that no ad for LTGC 6 will be in it. Sad, because it was fun last year to guess the cartoons that would have been featured in the set watching that trailer.....probably such ad will be in some July release by WB, like the Tiny Toon set.

Well, we're only hearing about a few limited cartoons, remember. And those are mostly confined to the 'One Shots' disc, which by definition won't have famous cartoon stars. There over 60 cartoons we still don't know about. I'm sure we'll have plenty of Bugs/Daffy/Porky/Sylvester/etc.

The problem from this point on is we've reached the time where WHV has to start rationing out the Bugs and Daffy cartoons a little more carefully, because their heavy use in past LTGCs means we're at the point where there can only be so many per set, if you're going to still have enough to attract buyers to future volumes, who might not be interested in one-shots, especially the pre-1940s efforts. If the LTGC does switch to a two-volume format sometime in the future, the shortage of rabbit and duck cartoons will probably be one of the major reasons.

Great News!
I do like Foggy (and other LT stars not yet presented enough on those collections) but I can really see the policy of those sets. Later volumes, must have somthing to have commercial success and Fonghorn Lenghorn, Sylvester and Pepe, are well known characters, enought to gather average cartoon fans to buy those sets.
Since those characters are not yet enough represented, it seems that LTGC don't need that kind of help to boost the sales yet! And that's good for us!
I wouldn't mind to have some late 60s cartoons in this volume: Cool Cat, Merlin the Mouse, etc. And I bet we gonna see many rareties on that one-shot disc!

I understand your feeling but my guess is that if future LT sets will be 2 discs (highly probable) the discs will be devoted to the more known characters like Bugs, Daffy, Tweety, Foghorn.
As long as we have the 4 discs format I'm happy that we are having more one-shots, b/w stuff, wartime cartoons. These would be difficult to seee in future LTGCs if they'll become 2 discs sets.

Wanna really blow my mind away on the next volume, then lets see WHV include the cult favorite WW2 short, "Bugs Bunny Nips The Nips" and then we'll talk.My gut feeling is that we'll see the war themed era shorts that have been shown on Cartoon Network and Boomerang in years past.
WHV is nervous about releasing their PIC cartoons onto dvd and I really wouldn't get my hopes up about seeing certain rare war cartoons(or the censored 11)on future LTGCs.

Uhm...there will be WW2 cartoons but my guess is that they'll be in the one-shot disc. I don't think there are 19 WW2 cartoons to be included in one disc. Several of them have already been in previous sets and, unless they will include shorts with very little references to the war (occasional lines about shortage or the likes), such a disc seems not possible.

I can't believe 2 Popeye releases in a year:D, I wasn't expecting volume 3 until mid 2009.
It's good you can't believe it, it's not official yet! If you think that it was once announced that before the end of 2008 we would have had ALL theatrical Popeye-s on DVDs this should give you an idea about how this plans can change! So far it's not official, but it looks like we could have another round of b/w Popeye-s for Xmas.

Looks like another pretty good year for cartoon fans. :)
Jerry didn't mention any extras on either of the sets, did he?

If you mean the third volume of Popeye and LTGC 6, nope.
As for Popeye 2 all extras have already been revealed.
As for bonus materials in LTGC 6, there will be less of them. After all they need more space: they are giving us 16 toons more than usual;)

I'd rather have more cartoons than more special features. Hopefully there will at least be a few commentaries, but none by John K please. Thank you.

Guilty (??) pleasure: I like the John K. commentaries!!! I hope they continue!!!

John K's commentaries are good when he's identifying the animators, but when it's just him going, "This cartoon rules!" Or "This cartoon sucks!" or "Bob Clampett was Chuck Jones' mentor", then it's not worth it.

I forgot about Popeye 2.
I certainly don't mind more cartoons on the LTGC!
The more that are on there, the sooner I get more cartoons I'm waiting for.:)
I, however hope that sometime in the future they will profile some of the Warner animators besides the ones that made it to director.

I'm wondering...
What 's better? 4 discs once a year or 2 discs twice a year?
From a marketing poing of view, a 2 disc set for Xmas and 2 disc set for the summer holidays make sence. And the big ones may sell the same amound of cartoons a bit more expensive that way.
Personally, I don't care in both scenarios, as long as the amount of the released cartoons remain steady on a yearly basis.

With each disc having 19 shorts and Bugs Bunny shorts running out I think that this one should not have a disc specifically devoted to Bugs Bunny. I think that disc 1 should be either an "all stars" disc or perhaps an "enemies" disc, which would still contain Bugs Bunny either way. That disc could represent pretty much all of the major enemies. I was thinking that Sylvester and Speedy would have been the only exception, but then I realised that Road to Andalay hasn't been released in any Golden Collections yet.

So the reason Porky's Duck Hunt hasn't been released is due to restoration expenses. I hope that Warner Bros. is willing to eventually spend whatever is needed to include this. But I wonder if this is the reason for the lack of Buddy and Sniffles cartoons, and why there have only been two Bosko cartoons included (though both were included as bonus features, and as far as I'm aware unrestored).

Often when I hear some info about the next Golden Collections, I feel like listing what I hope is included, based on what's known, but now that there will be 19 cartoons per disc, it may not be as easy as it once was. Listing a wishlist for a Tex Avery disc is hard enough to think of with 15 cartoons a disc. And we know that Porky's Duck Hunt won't be included, and I'll be surprised if The Isle of Pingo Pongo, Goldilocks and the Jivin' Bears, or All This and Rabbit Stew get released. Combine those with what Tex Avery cartoons have been released, and making a wishlist/ speculation list is a bit hard. And no, there has been no official confirmation either way about a Tex Avery disc on this set. I have thought up, in my head, a 19-cartoon Robert McKimson disc. But we don't know yet if that kind of disc will be included.

I guess that the contents of the WW2 disc could be something like these:
1 Rookie Revue
2 Meet John Doughboy
3 The Daffy Duckaroo
4 The Ducktators
5 Confusions of a Nutsy Spy
6 Brother Brat
7 Behind the Meatball
8 Meatless Flyday
9 Wacky Blackouts
0 Fifth Column Mouse
1 Fresh Airedale (there are several references to WW2 plus that infamous line)
2 Hop and Go
3 Ding Dog Daddy
4 The Weakly Reporter
5 Daffy the Commando
6 Tokyo Jokio
7 Russian Rhapsody
8 Bugs Bunny nips the Nips
9 Herr meets Hare
plus (I do hope) the remaining Snafu shorts (in this and the other discs) in good quality, like "Censored" and "The Home Front" in volume 4.

Andrea,
If Warner Bros. is still unsure about the Censored 11, then there's no way on Earth we'd see Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips or Tokio Jokio in the Golden Collections.
That having been said, WB is seriously considering putting out those wartime Popeyes, so who knows?

We'll wait and see:) Keep in mind that "Bugs Bunny nips the Nips" has already been officially released several years ago. A very good copy of it is in fact in the first GAOLT laserdisc box set.
WB is no way "seriously considering...", WB WILL put out those WW2 Popeye's efforts:cool: If them will be released I honestly can't see no red light for "Tokyo Jokio" or "Nips".
I guess for the end of July or the first weeks of August will know the contents of the set for sure.

Jerry explained that they are running out of bonus material for these sets and that's why more cartoons are appearing in this volume, it's relative to the set's total time amount less usual time total of bonuses I'm surprised that new bonus features aren't being produced with their vast archives of artwork and background films and materials.

Yes, but there was a complaint regarding that cartoon in the GAoLT laserdisc box set, so the set was re-issued with Racketeer Rabbit in place of Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips.

Actually, it was the VHS version of the same laserdisc.
Understandably so, since it was haphazardly thrown in an all-ages mass-market collection with no regards as to its content.

Yep, but in that case it was put there without any warning or explanation of the contest in which it was made. Now we would have a Wartime disc and (I guess) WB's classic card about "how things were in those days" that has worked so well in last volumes.
Also, if Popeye can fight on DVD against US' enemies during WW2, why Bugs cannot?:)

Do you mean the complaint was against the VHS version? Because I have the laserdisc and it's missing Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips.

Someone will start a separate official thread soon enough for this news, but since it's related to a subject discussed in this thread: Popeye 1941-3 has been officially announced for September (http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Popeye-Volume-3/9823).
