Mark Evanier posted the notice on his website (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2004_11_14.html#009205) today. Allen was the voice of Heckle & Jeckyl in the 1950s, as well as other voices for the studio, and of Deputy Dawg in the 1960s, along with later work for Hal Seeger and Paramount during that decade. (It's been a bad 18 months for New York voice talent from the classic cartoon era, BTW, since Jackson Beck died two months ago and Allen's fellow Terrytoons voice artist Lionel Wilson died last year).

I thought his Terrytoon voices were kind of bland, but he did really good with Deputy Dawg and really gave that character his spirit.

(Deputy Dawg is catching frogs for dinner)

Boy, I used to watch those cartoons every day on TV... it's funny how they just vanished without a trace.

That's sad to hear.

Some of the characters he voiced including Heckle and Jeckle, James Hound, anf of course...Deputy Dawg.
