Out of all the people who did the worst music for classic thetrical cartoons, who do you think was the best?

I like that point of view. While Stalling always gets the attention, I will continue to bring up Winston Sharples simply because he is so under rated and overlooked.

Well, I think most people DO consider Sharples to be a good composer (his work in the 40's in particular could be as good as those of the composers of the West Coast).
By Worst composer, I meant those who are known for not doing good cartoon scores (like Dean Elliot)

Eugene Poddany easily gets my vote. To be honest, I'm not quite sure why he's even included on this poll since I don't feel his cartoon scores are all THAT bad. It's probably just because of his bad association with Chuck Jones' Tom & Jerry cartoons. Those who were more familiar with his Walter Lantz cartoon scores would look at his work differently; they're quite melodic, pleasing to the ears, and satisfying (Aaaahhh, the inhibitedness of the unavailability of the Lantz cartoons..... ).

I voted Bill Lava. His musical score style is far much personal than Stalling and Franklyn did before him. He was the last musician to keep the quality in Looney Tunes cartoons.

Yes, his scores are zillion times better than Lava's. He really did a great job in some cartoons like Room and Bird... I'm not familiar with his later scores though.
Interestingly John Seely isn't on the poll. I've no problem with him, but most of you dislike his canned music a lot.

I like Eugene Poddany's scores. Of course, I'm an admitted Chuck Jones T&J fan, so I'm biased.

I imagine it's because Seely didn't really compose for the cartoons, per se. Someone just took a bunch of Capitol stock music of his and glued it together.
I'd pick Eugene Poddany, too. I swear Bill Lava composed one score for a Road Runner cartoon and it was used over and over.

Bill Lava gets my vote. Sure, his themes aren't as bouncy or fun as Stalling's or Franklyn's but he had a certain style that I really liked - a "comedy thriller" style, in a way. ;)
