This is IMO one of the more underrated cartoons of the early-60's. It's notable for being the only solo cartoon Yosemite Sam has ever starred in. And, surprisingly, he actually holds the cartoon quite well. Yeah, it's kind of a remake of His Bitter Half with some reused footage from Hare Trimmed. But there are enough new jokes and one-liners thrown in to make the cartoon funny. Plus, Wentworth (who, rather than being a bratty kid like in His Bitter Half, is now this insanely naive and goofy lunkhead) was absolutely hilarious.

The best parts of the cartoon include Yosemite Sam proposing to Honeybunch, "Darling, I loves you. I love your baby blue eyes, your ruby red lips, your emerald green money, your ::shocked at her size:: Duh de be big boo....", Wentworth accidentally dropping on Sam while playing horsey and stupidly wondering, "Where'd my daddy go?", and Sam attempting to fetch a baseball Honeybunch deliberately threw into the street for him to fetch, only to be run over by a bunch of cars and flattened like a pancake, at which (in his flattened state) he returns the ball (also flattened) to Honeybunch while moaning and groaning about her under his breath... and Honeybunch not even acknowledging what happened to him.

I LOVE this cartoon ... absolutely hilarious, classic Friz ... and classic June Foray. Can't wait til it makes one of the Golden Collections.

It's a remake of the far superior His Bitter Half.

This just proves that Sam should have had more solo cartoons in his career. They gave a few to Elmer, why not with Sam?

Anyway, I remember how hilarious this cartoon is. It was through this that I first discovered June Foray and how great she sounded. I remember someone mentioned a memorable moment in this short, which definately proves it's not a "cardboard copy" of His Bitter Half:

SAM: If you think fer one cotton pickin' minute ah'm-a gonna play with that prehistoric Horney-Toad, you... (Sam's Wife sticks her bank book in his face)...you...you guessed it! (Sam then licks the bank book! Classic! :D )

Actually, HBH did have a similar joke where Honeybunch suggested Daffy take Wentworth to the park. And then Daffy retorted with, "If you think for one minute that I'm going to take that brat to the park, you're ::Honeybunch shows him a bank book to remind him of all the money he has now that he's living with her:: you're... you're... you're absolutely right." I don't think Daffy licked the book, though.

I like Wentworth's line when Sam and the wife argue about whether Sam is going to take Wentworth swimming:

Sam: No I'm not!

Wife: Yes you are!

Sam: No I'm not!

Wife: YES YOU ARE!!

Wentworth: Mommy and Daddy are fighting!

It's hard to feel sorry for Sam in this cartoon, and just as hard not to. His intentions are purley self-serving. His mistake was in marrying the wrong woman, one who wouldn't put up with his murderous schemes. This is a true classic. A series of these would have been interesting, since Sam did return home to his wife and kid.

Just the concept of Sam wearing a plain t-shirt always struck me as hilarious, [even more absurd than Sam as a martian]!

This is a true hit.

I actually enjoyed this more than His Bitter Half. The husband/father role seemed more suited for Yosemitie Sam, and the mother and son characterizations were big enough contrasts that you're not hating one character more than the other.
Besides, the ending was awesome; if it's worth all the money in the world, Sam can take more domestic abuse.

I agree that Yosemite Sam was probably a better character for this kind of cartoon than Daffy Duck. As I stated in a previous thread, Daffy was uncharacteristically submissive in His Bitter Half (Lord bless the cartoon, I love it). In Honey's Money, Sam still eventually gives into Honeybunch's demands. But he always tries to find some way to get the best of both her and Wentworth (with little to no success, of course). And he isn't nearly as submissive and "yes ma'am"-ish as Daffy was in HBH. So, in terms of maintaining characterization, Honey's Money actually works quite a bit better than the cartoon it's based on.

It's been ages since I've seen this, but I remember liking it. If only it was available to watch on AOL. But for some reason, they seem to skip over much of the 1958-1962 library, yet have pretty much every Daffy/Speedy short. Weird choices.

Not to get off-topic here (especially over something so bitter) but..... please don't mention AOL very often since I'm quite angry and frustrated over the fact that Canadian Internet users (such as myself) cannot access videos at that site (nor can any other 'net users outside the United States). In other words, universally, putting cartoons up to watch on AOL isn't always the solution..... :(

Indeed. In Europe we can't see AOL videos as well. Pretty pathetic snobbery from the site.

Actually I think they gave Elmer a lot more than just a few.

I really like this cartoon. I have only seen His Bitter Half maybe a few times, and don't remember much (and I saw it recently on you-know-what-site-that-people-here-don't-want-us-mentioning). But Honey's Money is great.
