Here's an oddity (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280218813778&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:CA:1123). It seems that this particular Laugh-O-Gram, whichever it may be, has only one existing negative. If it's as rare as it's supposed to be, it could lbe an interesting find for anyone who's interested.

Disney wasn't even MAKING Laugh-o-Grams in 1925 (The Alice series was in full swing by then). I'd be wary.

I asked the seller, and it's the first film in the series. Common stuff.
Always take the info given in an ebay auction with a grain of salt, fellas. ;)

Thus ends the great mystery.

There's not enough information to identify this. What is the title? Second the Laugh-O-Grams films were from the period 1921-1922. Walt Disney made the ALICE'S WONDERLAND pilot in 1923 and left Kansas City, Missouri for Los Angeles in July that year. Three months later, Margaret Winkler offered him a contract to produce the ALICE COMEDIES, which he made until 1927.

While the date is wrong, it is also suspicious that a 35mm Nitrate negative should surface and THAT not be offered for sale. Any surviving 35mm negative from Disney's early career is extremely rare. Given this, the seller might benefit from the book, WALT IN WONDERLAND or a certain DVD titled THE LEGENDARY LAUGH-O-GRAMS just to have the history straight before posting on Ebay.

Precisely, Ray. The problem is many things can be said on eBay to make an item sound much rarer than it actually is. As we all know, the first Laugh o Gram film with footage of Disney drawing is not at all rare.

Yes, but what is of value is a film source that is not several generations removed, as many of these that circulate are.

Yeah, the eBay sellers just take full advantage of suckers like me. I don't go on there terribly often as a result.

To be fair, the seller, Marioeggs does have a 99.2% rating and seems to have sold legitimate things. But not having the details correct, no frame grab or a title makes it suspicious. He may be misinformed as to the date or the series the film belongs in.

I hate dealing with those type of people!

This reminds me of a print of Alice in the Wooly West I recently bought. The seller bought it some years back from a stock footage company or some such source. They told him it was the best looking print in existence, so he presented it in the auction as being such.
When compared to other prints circulating (sourced from 35mm elements), this 16mm is a bit murky, cropped and has some lab errors. So sometimes the seller may be misinforming bidders without really knowing he or she is giving wrong information...
