This is probably my favorite Freleng-directed Daffy Duck cartoon. For one thing, it gives Daffy a rather interesting characterization. Being that, by 1952 the little black duck was leaving his manic/crazy period, Freleng was experimenting with a calmer and more sardonic Daffy in this cartoon. And it worked in spades. The ending is, of course, a riot. We finally have a Freleng-directed cartoon with a well-drawn Daffy. It's also probably the first Freleng-directed cartoon in which Daffy was drawn in the more conventional beaky style Jones more-or-less established two years earlier with The Ducksters (although Wise Quackers, His Bitter Half and Golden Yeggs showed Freleng beginning to use a more beaky design for the little black duck - but not fully developing it until this one). And even Carl Stalling's music (particularly during the cartoon's title and opening credits) is great.
