Exactly when do you think the major WB directors did their best work for the WB studio?

Here's mine

Chuck Jones: 1942-1958
Friz Freleng: 1941-1954
Bob Clampett: 1937-1939, then 1942-1946
Tex Avery: 1936-1938 then 1940-1942
Frank Tashlin: 1937-1938 then 1943-1946
Robert McKimson: 1946-1951
Art Davis: 1947-1948
Norm McCabe: 1941-1942

I pretty much agree with your assessment, with only minor changes...

Chuck Jones: 1942, then 1948-1955
Friz Freleng: 1939-1945
Bob Clampett: 1938, then 1942-1946
Tex Avery: 1936-1937, then 1939-1941
Frank Tashlin: 1937, then 1943-1946
Robert McKimson: 1946-1951
Art Davis: 1946-1949
Norm McCabe: 1941-1942 *EDIT* (After reevaluating the situation, I have to agree with others that McCabe really didn't have a peak year directing.)

Chuck Jones: 1942 - 1956

Friz Freleng: 1943 - 1956

Robert McKimson: 1946 - 1952

Bob Clampett: 1938 and 1942 - 1946

Frank Tashlin: 1937 and 1943 - 1946

Tex Avery: 1938 - 1941

Granted these are very generalistic, there are still cartoons from each director that I love before and after these time periods.

Norm McCabe had a "peak"?

F. Fox
Yeah, you're right. He wasn't a director long enough to have a peak or decline. I would guess, if hard pressed, that his "peak" was The Ducktators -- that being the only cartoon that I think is a great McCabe directorial effort.
