According to this, (http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/three-new-volumes-from-the-disney-vault-featuring-never-before-seen-material,285180.shtml) Disney will indeed be releasing the fourth Donald volume this year, a little earlier than the norm (November 11, 2008).

However, the set will apparently stop short of collecting every Donald short released (meaning 1965's Steel and America and Donald's Fire Survival Plan will not be included)

Plus, Destino will be part of this wave.

Walt Disney Home Entertainment is proud to release some of the most extraordinary treasures from the Disney vault on DVD November 11, 2008 in a limited supply. All three new two-disc sets of “Destino,” “Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow” and “Chronological Donald, Volume 4” will make up the eighth installment ofthe popular series Walt Disney Treasures, which features rarely seen footage presented with updated color and sound.

“Destino” began in 1946 as a collaboration between Walt Disney and the famed surrealist painter Salvador Dali. A first-hand example of Disney’s interest in avant garde and experimental work in animation, “Destino” was to be awash with Dali’s iconic melting clocks, marching ants and floating eyeballs. However, “Destino” was not completed at that time. In 2003 it was rediscovered by Walt’s nephew, Roy E. Disney, who took on the challenge of bringing the creation of these two great artists to fruition. In addition to the completed “Destino,” this exciting addition to the Walt Disney Treasures line also includes an all-new feature-length documentary that examines the surprising partnership between Dali and Disney plus two new featurettes; “The Disney That Almost Was,” an examination of the studio’s unfinished projects; and “Encounters with Walt,” which addresses the surprisingly diverse group of celebrities and artists who were attracted to Walt Disney’s early work.

“Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow,” whichfirst airedas three separate episodes on Disney’s weekly TV show under the title “The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh,” was edited for theatrical releases in England and the U.S. This DVD set includes all three of the original TV episodes plus the theatrical version of the film that was released in England.

Disney fans will delight in “Chronological Donald, Volume 4,” which includes 31 classic shorts starring Donald Duck. Each of these meticulously animated adventures was created between 1951 and 1961 and has rarely been seen. All of Donald’s CinemaScope shorts will be presented in their original widescreen aspect ratio for the first time on video.

All three sets are hosted by noted film historian, author and critic Leonard Maltin. Each limited edition, individually numbered volume includes an authenticity certificate, exclusive lithograph and comes in a unique, collectible tin.

Additional info from UD:

Disney has issued a surprisingly early press release for the next wave of Walt Disney Treasures. The eighth wave will reach stores on November 11, 2008, a month earlier than usual. This year's limited two-disc sets will be: Destino, Dr. Syn, Alias The Scarecrow, and The Chronological Donald, Volume 4. Destino, the 2003 completion of an abandoned 1940s Walt Disney-Salvador Dali short film, will be accompanied by a feature-length documentary plus the featurettes "The Disney That Almost Was" and "Encounters with Walt." Originally announced for release in 2004, Dr. Syn will contain the three episodes of "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" as they originally aired on Walt's weekly anthology in February of 1964 as well as the 1975 theatrical feature compositing them. Donald's 31-cartoon set will pick up in 1951 (where Volume 3 left off) and take us to his series' end in 1961, including some CinemaScope shorts in their wide original aspect ratios.

Hope they'll include the C&D cartoons. Nothing great, but I've always loved "Two Chips and a Miss".

Excellent news on all three. However, with just three episodes and a feature version, will the Dr. Syn set have enough to cover two discs? Maybe they plan some extras not listed yet, but that seems awfully skimpy for a Treasures release.

The Destino set also sounds flimsy, but hopefully there will be additional things added. Still, both animation set will be mine.

Huzzah! The Donald set will finally be complete.

Also, I look forward to the Desinto set as well. It's nice to know Disney has more animation artifacts than meets the eye.

Perhaps they're still included as bonus material?

They say 31 shorts so "Mathmagic" will be in it by the way.

Yeah I wouldn't jump to any conclusiions about those missing shorts just yet. Bonus material shorts (which I'm betting those qualify as) aren't usually included in the short count in the initial press releases.

Cool new sets! :D
It's two weeks after my birthday. Except Chronological Donald 4, the two others seems a nice touch.

And did they got "Scrooge McDuck and Money"?

I wonder if David will have/had some role in the featurette about the "Disney that almost was".
Something I'd like to see if footage of that bumblebee short with Mickey and if I'm right some footage was actually made of a cartoon with Pluto and Bobo the elephant on which Tashlin had a great role.

I'm guessing the early release details were the result of these sets initially being planned for the assumably now-defunct & short-lived 'Legacy Series' that was introduced last year with the first wave's True-Life Adventure sets. Since our successful campaign with the Treasures line last year, Leonard Maltin probably had the fourth Donald greenlit and all these live-action titles passed over. I'm sure we would've otherwise seen Destino and Dr. Syn under a different series heading, much like the long delayed and finally released Disneyland set last year. In fact, that one was originally planned to be released alongside Destino before being indefinitely delayed, as per the press release some years back. I just hope this last Donald Duck set collects ALL the remaining character shorts along with the three Chip & Dale cartoons, the few post-'56 industrial/educational shorts and Mathmagic Land mini-feature. The press release indicates 31 shorts up to (and based on the math, presumably including) 1961. This sounds promising and it's more than likely that the remaining shorts would be included in a bonus menu. We'll probably have more details and hopefully confirmation about all of this soon with such an early press release. I'm gonna write to Leonard Maltin again appealing to him to include my fave Disneyland ep. 'Your Host, Donald Duck' as an extra!

I'm going to get the "Destino" set due to the "Disney that almost was" featurette caught my attention. I'd like to find out about the unmade Mickey Mouse shorts. Maybe since Disney's going back to doing theatrical shorts, they should finish those (with the exception of the wartime ones, of course).

I'm glad they'll be finishing up the Donalds. Do you suppose this series will continue after this wave?

If the sales will be good it'll continue.
There's lot of good stuff still left that'd deserve a release.
I'd like something devoted to Ludwig von Drake, the Educational shorts...we could write another series of letters asking a release of "Song of the South", uncut Fantasia, uncut Make Mine Music/Melody Time, TV specials made in the 50s/60s with animation.
All we have to do is show interest in wave 8.

I guess they ancitipated the usual release date to November, and already made an official announcement, because the last wave must have been a great hit.

That last Donald set is already on my pre-Christmas list, with Humphrey Bear being on it (one of my favorite cartoon characters ever). This will give Jack Hannah a better much representation than the last set. There were even some decent Chip an Dale shorts at this time (Up A Tree,Chips Ahoy).

I looked up the two 1965 Donalds on the (excellent) Disney Shorts site. Steel and America was a commercial short and Donald's Fire Survival Plan was an educational one. Steel and America will probably indeed be a bonus (like The Volunteer Worker was), but where does that leave Fire Survival Plan (especially since the other educationals are covered in the main total count)?

I hope so, if only to get the educational films and Jiminy Cricket series out on DVD. After that, I don't really care if the plug is pulled...

I'd really like to get a Miscellaneous set with the non-series shorts Disney did which weren't on the Rarities set, from It's Tough To Be A Bird on. I'd particularly like to get Redux Riding Hood and Lorenzo.

May this find you happy and healthy.

As long as we buy the releases and keep writing letters (glad this year we had not to do it) the series will continue. Same for LTGCs, Popeye and Woody sets.

I think we should all remember that there are other possibilities for additional animation sets besides other rarities and educational ...

like "Song of the South" and some of the other "package" features completely unedited.

And I'd still like to see Zorro happen.

not sure if this is new or not, or whether anybody knew about it, but Donald in Mathmagic Land is available on DVD as an exclusive from the Disney Club:

Great news! I have to admit that I was hoping for a second rarities set but my satisfaction with the completion of Donald makes up for it. Here's to hoping the line continues.
