I figured this might prove interesting, since we had a poll discussing which of the two did people happen to prefer, and Tom certainly had the most votes.
Probaly my favorite of the thirteen (sorry, had no choice to have 12...:o ) is The Bodyguard.

"Southbird Duckling" indeed. It gives you that feeling that Tom actually ate Jerry and the little duck at the end.

Hmmm...it was either a cross between "Mouse for Sale" or "Timid Tabby", but eventually my vote went for "Little School Mouse", it being the only one where Tom gets one over Jerry throughout the whole 'toon! :D

I'm going with "The Million Dollar Cat"
"Gee I'm throwing away a million bucks. BUT I'M HAPPY!"
The Vanishing Duck is a close second, mostly cause theat annoying duck gets it in the end!"
And as for Chuck Jones shorts: I love "Duel Personality!"

Little School Mouse, for Jerry's sheer frustration level.

ALL OF THEM!
I will go with Hic-Cup Pup though. It's very satisfying that Jerry's dirty plans backfired at the end.

Btw was That's My Mommy a Tom-winning short? I always count that one where the cat had the upper hand.

Kinda, I think, as it shows Tom with a different side at the end - and I do mean different!
BTW, I noticed that "Love Me, Love My Mouse" wasn't included in the list. (out of space?) That's another Tom-winning cartoon worth mentioning.

Not really sure what the criteria are for "cartoon where Tom wins", unless it simply means "Tom doesn't lose at the end," because you can't really say that Tom "wins" in the Bodyguard as he spends the vast majority of the cartoon's duration being poked in the puss, pulverised and pounded to pieces, really, it is only in the dying seconds that Tom manages to gain the upper hand, and a similar comment can be made of Mouse for Sale and the Million Dollar Cat (yes, he's happy but he's lost his fortune, how can he have "won" by any stretch of the imagination?
Anyway, my favourite was The Bodyguard. Not because Tom wins or doesn't win, but because it's a fine cartoon.

"The Bodyguard" seems to lead directly to "Puttin' On The Dog", though, where he definitely doesn't win at the end...

I think the criteria is simple. Tom must have a moral or physical upper hand at the final conclusion in the cartoon. It doesn't mean Jerry has to be sliced and diced and Tom show a big grin on his face. It's just he get better of the mouse. Some of them are definately borderline wins, like Jerry's Diary or That's My Mommy.
As for Bodyguard, IIRC Tom dominated the cartoon after the bubble-gum part.

Uh, that one is a very ugly cartoon even for the usual Chuck Jones T+J level. That female feline is one of the most unattractive characters I ever seen in cartoons. But yeah, it should have been included.

Friend of mine posted an interesting thought on my blog that I thought was worth showing. :)
"I only wish this sort of thing happened at least once in the earlier cartoons when Jerry REALLY deserved a beating. In the cartoons produced after 1953 Tom no longer got hurt so much and Jerry wasn't so vindictive, and so moments of revenge like this one didn't taste as sweet as they could have done."
I agree wholeheartedly.

In Joe Adamson's book on Tex Avery, I believe it was mentioned that while Tex was at Metro, Hanna and Barbera were constantly told by MGM staff members (inside and outside the animation department) that "You really do beat the s--t out of that cat." A dozen years of hearing that may have finally had its effect by 1952, or Joe Barbera may have just run short of ideas on how to end a cartoon with Tom in complete tatters and decided having him win once in a while might add a little variety to the stories.

Tom's wins is what drew me to Tom & Jerry, in contrast to all of the other cat as bad guy cartoons where they never won. (Before T&J arrived on WPIX in NYC, the primary classic cartoon was Mighty Mouse! Then, elsewhere, you had Sylvester &^ Tweety, Herman & Katnip, etc. T&J was a welcome relief!)
The list continues to grow in the new series, where you had one that seemed to have Jerry with the upper hand, but then suddenly it ends with Tom using him as an exercise weight. Then, more recently, which could eslily be the best (and just replayed this past weekend), IIRC, "Little Big Mouse" or something like that, which was a total role reversal, with Tom siding with an ant Jerry was chasing, and both Tom and the ant winning (Basically, Tom moved up to Spike's place, Jerry was in tom's place and the ant in Jerry's place).
There was even a T&J Kids or two where Tom won.
Duel Personality was also a favorite of mine because of the cool music.

I also would've included That's My Mommy.
Although Jerry does indirectly prevent the duck from being eaten, it's mostly Tom's change of heart that triumphs.
