Jerry was once again on Shokus Internet Radio tonight. Did anyone catch it? Anything exciting announced or hinted at?

I only caught the first half-hour or so which was very little Jerry and a lot of writer's strike stuff with Mark Evanier. I guess I will have to try to catch a rebroadcast sometime this week.

The broadcast is repeated daily 4-6 p.m. PST. I called in around 5:30.

Ray, I just wanted to tell you your call-in was the highlight of the show. It was nice to hear some insightful commentary, instead of the mindless blathering that usually gets through.

I like the show a lot, but Stu needs to know when to cut his callers off. Even when he asks them to hurry up, they still blab on forever and ever.

He needs to block that Bill Field idiot on all future shows.

Hey, I happened to call on that show and I wouldn't say my question was mindless. It was just a concern question and comment about an upcoming set.

Nick, I think Thad's remark was about the callers in general, not yours in particular, unless you feel a bit self-conscious. I heard your question, and I must say that while you displayed a concern about the DVDs, the manner in which you posed your question seemed a bit bothersome to both Jerry and Stu. This prompted Jerry's responses about the difficulties in producing a quality DVD meeting the demanding standards that fans such as yourself expect.

One of the frustrating aspects of producing DVDs is our having been saddled with digital imaging techniques, which are still imperfect. Certain programs promise more than they can deliver, and we the producers become the "guinea pigs" who find out that they don't work as promised, and are stuck with finding ways of making the technology work simply because we are stuck with it. While some systems remove flaws, they can tend to add other flaws there were not there before. After all the hard work, hours and hours of work, it comes as a slap in the face to hear gripes and many times petty nit-picking. Granted, some DVD releases may not have been produced as well as others, but that is due to many other factors that we are not privy to.

I do not have the financial resources of Disney or Time-Warner, yet I do my utmost to turn out a product that is equal to the best of their output. In light of that, there are a number of so-called "reviewers" who go to a great deal of
effort to disect my product, guessing at what I have done without verifying with me, even going so far as to criticsing my covers. This is the danger of
so many self-made "ciritic" and "experts" that in the comfort of their amateurish smugness, they can tend to cause more harm than good simply becuase they are not qualified to make such analysis. You want to avoid falling into this abyss.

As I stated on the show, we continue to discover more techniques that improve my product such as image stablization, dirt and scratch removal, and images repair. We have experimented with many of these techniques over the past year, and spent six months restoring the 1922 Houdini feature, THE MAN FROM BEYOND, which not only is the best, but most complete version on the market, complete with all interetitles and sequences.

Thank you for your compliments on my call. In the future, and for the benefit for all listening, it might be more effective to call in with more positive remarks
related to the area of discussion. If you have a concern about how or why certain things go wrong, you can ask this without making it sound like a harsh criticism without knowing the inside story. This, I believe was why Jerry was a bit exasperated by your call. The whole point was that we hear more wrangling and complaints than words of appreciation for putting these classic cartoons out for the public to appreciate. I think that is the key word, "appreciation." And I am sure that you do appreciate the cartoons. That is why you are concerned about how they are sometimes misrepresented. These things concern me as well, but I look at such things as an example not to follow, and a motivation to do better. That's my goal.

I like the time you called when you weren't even listening and wanted to talk to the wrong guests.

You listen to that show? Oh boy, the reason I wasn't listen was because I was busy watching my copy of Golden Collection vol.5. I thought I heard Stu mentioned the week before that Earl Kress was going to be on and I didn't have time to look at the schedule. So that was the reason for that goof up.

The concept of "multi-tasking" becomes more of a part of our existence, doesn't it?:tweety:

Unfortunately so, Ray. I have enough trouble focusing on one thing, so count me out of the multi-tasking fad ;)

And don't get me going on cell-phone users that never pay attention to what's going on in the real world.
One time I nearly hit one of these yakkers as he wondered about the road I was driving on
blabbing away totally oblivious to what was going on around him.

This could be the subject of a new cartoon, or a topic of discussion on STU'S SHOW, which is really what this thread is supposed to be all about--specifically Jerry Beck's "appearance.":bosko:

I usually find these shows interesting, but my player stops streaming in the middle of a show and then won't let me listen. Does happen to anyone else?

It happens to me, but I just reclick the play button on my media player (I use Windows) and it starts right back up.

What did Jerry talk about? Any highlights? Revealing news?

His biggest news was that he had news that he couldn't reveal, but would be revealed on Cartoon Brew on Friday. We all know now he was talking about Woody Woodpecker Volume 2. Other than that, I don't think there was any other news (and there wasn't even that news, but a tease).
