What do you guys think of the 1953 Chuck Jones-directed one-shot, Punch Trunk? I like it because of the 5-inch-tall elephant scaring away an entire population. He may be small in size, but his trumpet is bigger than his bite.
Trivia stuff:
The "S.S. Michael Maltese" that the show's narrator explains early on in the short refers to, of course, writer Michael Maltese.
"Foster Television" refers to writer Warren Foster.
Radio announcer Mr. Pratt refers to layout artist Hawley Pratt.
The 5-inch-tall elephant scares away the normal-sized elephants; turns a circus cat into a monkey, among other gags.

Love this cartoon. And I'm glad to see somebody bring it up, because it's truly one of Chuck Jones's most memorable one-shot cartoons.
Coincidentally, it was released during the same year as Much Ado About Nutting. So Chuck gave us double prizes that year!

Ford and Lennon must have like it since it was one of the shorts they folded into Daffy Duck's Quackbusters.
I dunno, I've always considered this short underrated, since it's usually not talked about often, or even when discussing Chuck's other great xcartoons.

I like it. I think it's different from most of the cartoons from that era, with an odd concept. It's a one note idea, though. I would rate it good, but not one of Chuck's classics.

It's a hit for me (assuming this is a hidden hit or miss thread :daffy: ). IMO Chuck Jones was far the best one-shot cartoon director.

For the most part, wonderfully original and fun, although the first gag about the guy who reports an elephant in his birdbath is too slow and predictable.

I love this short and I hope it's included on vol. 6. It's so silly, with this mini elephant scaring the crap out of the city. Lots of funny blackout gags:
-The guy exits the optometrist, sees the elephant, goes back into the shop and beats up the optometrist for giving him "faulty glasses".
-The drunk going, "You're LATE!"
-"I seen it." newspaper headline.
-Miniature elephant inbetween normal sized elephants at the circus.
-Dock worker's eyes slowly rolling back and fainting when seeing the mini elephant.

I had forgotten about this cartoon until I saw this thread. And it definately needs to be on the next Golden Collection.

This cartoon is pretty good, I remember seeing it as a kid and it still holds up well. My favorite part was the glasses bit when the guy sees the tiny elephant after coming out with his new glasses and then punching the optometrist offscreen! :D
Don't forget the drunk guy who see's the Elephant (that always reminds me of a Simpsons episode with Barney).
For a limited time only the cartoon is on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKoNSYFzA_k

Wow, I haven't seen this short in a loooong time. Always loved it as a kid. Still a really enjoyable short. Feels like a lot like a precursor to One Froggy Evening actually.
