Did you remember the 50 greatest cartoon characters mentionned by TV guide a few years ago?
If yes, you was maybe upset that some real good characters wasn't in the list. The only ones i remember in the list but too recent for being in the top 50 is Pikachu and The Powerpuff Girls (Probably due to the movie), but someone in Toonzone posted a analysis of 50 greatest cartoons characters. I send you the link. http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=195219
It inspired me this week to make the 50 greatest comic-books/mangas series ever made by this valuable principles. :)

I never considered TV Guide's 50 greatest cartoon characters to be crappy like what Zen Man said. Sure it has some modern characters in the list, but had some great nearly forgotten character like Tom Terrific and Gernald McBoing Boing. And of course, who else besides Bugs Bunny, should deserve to be No.1 cartoon character?
Plus, Zen's list has some faults too. I mean, he thinks Rocket Robin Hood worthy material on this list, but not "Unca Donald"???? That's nonsense! :donald:

Well, his analysis is not perfect at all, but they have some good ones. I wishing than Donald or Tom and Jerry was in the 10 firsts but i think he's based more from their careers on TV and with the public.
But i'm just glad, i find a link of the TV guide's top 50 cartoon characters (http://archives.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/TV/07/30/cartoon.characters.list/index.html). It's also great than his analysis.
But how Rocket Robin Hood could be in the top 50 for a small career?

Oh, sorry. I guess I didn't look at it more clearly. I noticed Daffy, but not Donald. Still, I wish they should've used someone more memorable than Rocket Robin Hood, though I have no idea who.
Also, I wasn't happy about a certain member of this form saying that Mickey shouldn't be on the list. Yes, he had some bland periods, mainly in mid-1930 to late 1932 and at the end of his film career, but still in his best cartoons and his most of his comic apperances he had some personailty and he's the central cartoon star to Disney as Bugs was/is to Warners. Besides, he my favorite cartoon charater.

What does a length of a career have to do with anything? How long was Gerald McBoing Boing around?
I don't even think Rocket Robin Hood has camp factor, let alone nostalgia factor. It's just plain bad.

FF He apeared in five cartoons and two Magoo shows. Also, a recent show, but let's not go there.

I love "One Froggy Evening" as much as anyone, but I really can't believe the Michigan J. Frog has more "popularity, longevity, originality, cultural/industry impact and box office" than Felix the Cat.

I feel a bit bad to publicy a unofficial analysis like this especially if it's not made by me. Sorry guys for the misunderstood!

I love that cartoon too, but I'm sick of the hype around it (became a cult like What's Opera Doc, Duck Amuck, Duck Dodgers and Rabbit of Seville). Some minor character's popularity like the frog, Marvin and Taz is really beyond me.

I may be a bit biased because I love their cartoons a lot, but am really surprised to see Tom and Jerry so low down on that list. You'd think that what with their lack of dialogue, they'd be more universal and accessible than most of the others that ranked higher on the list.
As much as I like Bugs Bunny and prefer him to Mickey, I'd have to say that Mickey Mouse was by far the most far-reaching and influential cartoon character. But who am I to disagree?

The way I see it, Bugs Bunny was the most popular cartoon character from the 1940s on, while Mickey was on top for only a few years, and didn't even star in very many cartoons after 1940.
