Probably most of you know that there are Russian versions of Winnie the Pooh and Jungle Book, but did you know there is even a Russian Brer Rabbit made in 1972? Since Disney is still reluctant to release 'Song of the South' on DVD, this ersatz is worth taking a look:

Hi all--I have posted 2 Barkleys episodes, each in three parts, to YouTube.
They're Finders Weepers and Match Breaker, which were available in the past on videotape. (Another videotape is out there, with the episodes Half Pint Hero and Lib and Let Lib--saw on Ebay; may get)
Hope these stay up! I also hope to run across some other Depatie Freleng one way or another, like Houndcats, Oddball Couple, or The Dogfather
(for some reason I bumped into the very last minute or so of one
episode on WSBK-TV in Boston a little while ago, on a weekend afternoon).
I got Jerry Beck's Pink Panther book recently and he does cover some of the other DFE product. (Also, btw, wouldn't mind seeing
Bear who Slept Through Christmas again...)

Touche away! It's Touche Turtle and a "giant double header" (well,
he won't be facing Barry Bonds anyway). And the first voice you hear

Another Fred Flintstone voice, Henry Corden, played Arnie Barkley in

I think there were sponsers mentioned in the opening of those early "Peanuts" specials. After the "Written by Charles M. Schulz" credit, there's always an abrupt fadeout. An example can be seen in It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and He's Your Dog, Charlie Brown.
I think its the same with the closing credits, too. There's a noticable splice, cutting to the "The End" sign.

The special's OK, but the animation comes off rather awkward at times. It sort of has that feel like they were still getting the hang of working with the characters and all, and it picks up a little more in the Halloween special that followed.

Rumor has it that a nice print of a "sacred" cartoon (Par-Cart talks about it a lot) will be on YouTube, by the same person who posted the bright print of "The Enchanted Square", Ira H. Gallen (TVNETWORKS and it's sister users, such as iraRona, CartoonStudio, tvdays, etc.). But I'm not sure, because he said "great quality". Does he mean it by quality in terms of animation, etc. or the condition of the print? But hold your funnybone, because he is finding it in his film/video collection of old movies and TV shows.

Yeah the Houndcats weren't laugh out loud funny but I did like some of the
features, like Rhubarb's inventions (Arte Johnson's voice in a slight lisp),
Putty Puss's "master of disguise" ability--voice by Joe Besser of the 3
Stooges, "Not so ha-ard!"...Mussell Mutt (Aldo Ray) being the loveable oaf
("I don't get it, but then again I never do"). And I generally liked the
design of the characters.
If Goodwin did the incidental music, props to him there too, as there was
some nice bits running in the background. I believe he also did the
Dixieland-ish incidental music for Ant and the Aardvark.
Sometimes the incidental music can go a long way for me. I have enjoyed
Hoyt Curtin's work for Hanna Barbera, and I liked the grooooovy incidental
music for Cattanooga Cats (I don't think Mike Curb did that, just the
songs...someone else did incidental music; themes for stuff like
Motor Mouse and Autocat, etc)
Well I may put a bit more Houndcats up for historical purposes and I did
like parts of it, at least. Now will someone dig up some Dogfather
'toons from DFE (saw a bit of one not too long ago and was interested)
>>finalgling with doubled-sided discs
speaking of which, took advantage of amazon's $20 sale and got the
Huck Hound box set and watched a good part of it tonight...good stuff
(and just as with the Top Cat box, the last disc was double sided)
And I'm glad they put the laugh track on Houndcats. After all we wouldn't know when to laugh without the laugh track now would we? :)
Mussel Mutt in pt 3 of that Houndcats episode: "Ooh, the last time I tied a knot like this was when I tried to tie my shoes!" Uh, shoes? I'm pretty sure all of the Houndcats are strictly bare-pawed through out the show, so
what shoes? Mussel Mutt would have to take a size 25 for his huge paws
I'd guess, if he DID try to put footwear on em!

Tough call.
It's sort of like the discussion we've been having about ALL THIS AND RABBIT STEW. While I can't say the creators themselves were necessarily intentional racists (let alone mean-spirited), the images reflected the real prejudices a lot of others had at the time—not least Frito-Lay executives, whose clumsy public statements about the character made rather clear that they didn't mind offending a relative few if Fritos continued selling well.
Upon being polled (http://www.sdlatinofilm.com/trends12.html), most Hispanic viewers of the commercials apparently enjoyed them. But the 8% who didn't, in this case, were still able to claim to speak for some hundreds of thousands of individuals. Advocacy groups got involved, not least compelled by Frito-Lay's own smug attitude.
Not really. Other than the last one, none of the ads could be taken as 'negative imagery'.

Interesting note- The two redrawn Mutt and Jeff's were done in the late 30's to try to to turn them into a sound cartoon. Thus, the added sound effects on the color versions, which I shamedly admit I prefer.

Heh, being reminded of that slide whistle used for their 'voices' in those cartoons! It gets rather annoying and silly by the end!
Noticed this redrawn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bptAdByDrD4) stuck up on YouTube with some snappy music in the opening (no doubt another KPM track I need to hunt down).

It's a pretty "straight" add. I'd odd that Fred is in a modern day suit. This smells of some ad agency genius' half-baked concept, and H-B accepted the job for the licening fee. Do notice that it is well animated. Notice also the painting error in the middle of the spot where the gray of the suit is painted on the shirt.
